Cashbook lists the expenditure and income in your portfolio. When you buy or sell or make a cashbook entry, cashbook logs the, price, quantity, transaction time, cashbook balance @ time of transaction etc.

  • The cashbook balance
    Shows the amount of cash you have/don't have after trading in the shares in your portfolio.

    A cost like the purchase of shares is deducted from the cashbook total. So if on your first buy in you spend £12,000.00

    Cashbook balance is £ 0
    Payments = -£12,000.00
    New Cashbook balance = -£12,000.00

    The cashbook balance is always relative to current investment costs, the profits/losses you've accumulated whilst trading.

    So if you had previously sold all your shares and made £1000.00 profit and then bought £12,000.00 of shares your deficit will be £11,000.00.

    Cashbook balance is £1,000.00
    Payments -£12,000.00
    New Cashbook balance = -£11,000.00

    As far as cashbook is concerned the profit from your initial investment is offsetting the second investment.
