26/5/2016 18:26 | Not wishing to sound rude, when I went to a BBQ in our local council estate I was astonished to see how much salt and pepper they were throwing on to their food and 3 or 4 spoons of sugar into their tea and coffee While I was in my local town my wife and I went into a local Japanese resturant and we each just had an expensive desert, it was beautifully tasty and filling. Next time my wife took me to a local workmens cafe where for the same price we each had a main course, dessert and 2 cups of tea cost the same price, both of us found the food overwhelmingly Sugary to the taste, hurting our teeth and not at all filling. Which was the better, the more expensive as it was just as filling but wow! was it so much tastier. One thing I have noticed, many of the people who say they can not afford to buy better food have many computer games, stacks of DVDs, so many clothes they do not know what to do with them all and loads of other stuff that my family doesn´t seems to me the simple reason why we can afford to spend a little more on better quality food. | loganair
26/5/2016 18:16 | @Logan, "In my experience, less but better quality is often more and more filling" Yup concur. I tend to buy mostly organic as well so dome supermarkets are out purely on that basis alone. "The ´Basic´r Many don't have that luxury. The food is also perfectly edible as well - perhaps not to your refined taste buds! I suspect your dog would be fine so a tad exaggerative! :) | fangorn2
26/5/2016 18:11 | Regarding vouchers, we got ours today and every one of the "Extra Points" vouchers is for something that we buy in every weekly shop. There are also usually several reductions in the prices of items, as indicated in the weekly E-mail. I cannot believe that about the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive products. You can save more than 59p on virtually any one item. In some cases the cheapest option is more than acceptable. In Tesco try porridge, kitchen rolls, marmalade and washing up liquid just for an example. DF | deanforester
26/5/2016 17:36 | Actually, a couple of years ago an independent shoppers company did a standard basket over a few weeks and found the difference between the cheapest and most expensive basket for the same shop on any one week was just 59p. In my experience, less but better quality is often more and more filling. In my experience something like Sainsbury´s ´Taste the difference´ or the Tesco equivalent is no cheaper than Waitrose. The ´Basic´r | loganair
26/5/2016 17:34 | Loganair, I don't use my vouchers for a food shop as that s just stupid when the vouchers during there club card boosts can be doubled, and with partner boosts can be quadrupled to make days out with the family much cheaper and then use the money saved on a food shop with can be far more. And I get far more than a fiver, because if you use there credit card, not only do you get the points on anything you buy anywhere, but when used in Tesco or Esso stations you get extra points. Pay them off at the end of the month and it's extremely worth while. I also shop at Waitrose, but the Tesco near me is actually a really nice store where as another one just down the road not so nice due to location. Same can be said for Waitrose. Small one near me is really nice but a huge one near Southend is just awful as its too big. | capeview
26/5/2016 17:32 | Loganair, I see you are in GVC as well, good man! | festario
26/5/2016 17:21 | "Wow! After doing a whole months shopping as a family we got a fiver on our loyalty card - Wow! a whole fiver" You can't being doing much shopping there then Probably a good idea to not focus on who you have loyalty cards, and just go shop where you want to. Waitrose is indeed superb..but not everyone can be as lucky as you to be able to afford to shop there as it's more than just a few pennies more! | fangorn2
26/5/2016 15:06 | to let you all know have spoken to the other contact and he backs up the info I have .so have added a few more . we will soon know if they are correct did not want to buy higher when I had the chance to buy at under 170p good luck all | portside1
26/5/2016 13:29 | Yes cape, You can make some really good savings using the boost and even coupling it with discount codes etc. | ladeside
26/5/2016 12:44 | Ladeside, cash is always good, but if the bonus is points that can be doubled or quadrupled at certain times of the year, and you still save money while shopping, it's a bonus. I've saved a lot over the years using the vouchers so they do have there place, and when combined with online cash back sites along with a credit card that gives you points as well its a huge saving for things from car insurance to the latest to or gadget as well as holidays. I would still rather have cash, but if you have the cash and can pay the cards each month even better. | capeview
26/5/2016 12:32 | I don't disagree Logan, however it would surprise you how many people value their clubcard and points even over cash !! Trust me, I could tell you a few stories !! | ladeside
26/5/2016 12:11 | Although I'm a shareholder I personally don't see any major differences between any supermarket, and actually prefer buying butcher meat from my local butcher and bakery products from my local baker. Having said that, my town is a one supermarket town and that's Tesco. There is no other large supermarket within 8 - 10 miles so really Tesco have a captive audience in my area. What I would say sets Tesco aside as a business, is the buying power, the brand name and history and of course additional things like the Petrol stations, clubcard scheme and now the Bank. Tesco, although having some market share issues, should still be appreciated as the number 1 and undisputed leader in market share and ultimately is still the giant of the sector...... | ladeside
26/5/2016 11:55 | As I´ve asked a few times before, what Differentiates Tesco from other Supermarkets. It seems to me very little to nothing is why they´re stuggling and lossing so much market share. If Tesco were to Differentiate themselves from the likes of Aldi and Lidl then they wouldn´t have to battle it out so much with them for the same customers, the main mistake M&S made with their clothing and trying to battle it out with Next as many of their old customer base just drifted away. | loganair
26/5/2016 11:48 | so portside, you are now long Tesco? | stoaty1

26/5/2016 08:31 | Porty you little rascal - are you having a senior moment. Your post 22 May - have decided to avoid these shares , to much risk and poor management who in the last 18 months have just milked the company . and no good news for holders so will not be buying back | chris coxon
26/5/2016 08:28 | Would like to buy but just don't have enough funds to spread around. I wish I did, but with the house renovation, have to cover costs there, so what little I have tends to go in one company at the moment. I really need to change my share trading firm to degiros though to reduce my costs which although small will help me instead of the firm. | capeview
26/5/2016 08:13 | cape speaking to some one in the know says BUY for a good rise so have bought two lots to day 7004 and think the other buy was around 8000 | portside1
25/5/2016 13:03 | 170p has often proved to have some resistance both when the share price was going up and down. You would expect a pull back, but also expecting a rise higher too over the next week or 2 | wallywoo
25/5/2016 12:07 | So true tfergi. Then again, its what makes this share a nice profit maker at the moment. It seems to be dropping and rising about 10-15p every so often, its just getting it at the right time for when it does kick off. | capeview
25/5/2016 11:41 | This share is so volatile at the moment !? | tfergi |
