31/5/2016 13:15 | lol, like that sums up the Europe project and makes you laugh! | wallywoo
31/5/2016 13:11 | And there's this too! The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English". In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c".. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f".. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi TU understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas. | jordaggy

31/5/2016 12:55 | Ladeside, this is the first time we've really been given the opportunity to have a say, you might as well use it there's likely to be no other in your lifetime. Harold Wilson gave us a referendum earlier and then campaigned to stay in, when asked if he would abide by the decision of the people his response was "The government will retain the right to govern." so I guess that was 'no' My opinion is that several times over the last couple of centuries the French and the Germans have tried to rule the world only being blocked in their ambitions by Great Britain, since the EU has been formed they have taken by stealth and sleight of hand what they were unable to take by force. | vaneric
31/5/2016 12:22 | Regarding the EU debate, although many points made in the 6 paragraph post are relevant, they're only relevant to specific parts of the country. As stated previously, house prices in my area are very low (average under £110k), the local secondary school serves 3 small towns and has a capacity of 1500 pupils of which under 1% are Black, Asian or Eastern European. Unemployment in my area is very high and the majority that do work have a 25 mile commute to the City for low paid clerical roles in Banking & Insurance. So, what does the referendum mean to people in my community ? In a nutshell, absolutely nothing. The Britain which is talked about by both sides of the argument is an unfamiliar Britain to us and I just wonder how many other communities across the UK are in a similar situation. Will I vote ? Probably not. I always vote in General Elections & Local Elections however I just don't have an opinion or care about what happens whether in or out and I know lots of people feel the same. Personally I believe there will be a record low turnout as I still haven't heard anyone on Buses, Trains, my office or on the street even discuss it. As far as i'm concerned the only people who really care are the money men at the top with a vested interest and for the normal punter there's nothing likely to change either way. So roll on and let's see how it all turns out........ | ladeside
31/5/2016 12:01 | Loganair...watch the presentation! | jordaggy
31/5/2016 11:36 | Wallywoo - Loganair: you are deluded if you think a company has £55B in turnover (valued at £13B), and you think it is not going anywhere. Tesco could be going somewhere and sadly so far it seems to be going backwards. Yahoo used to be a nearly $100bln company, now it´s worth less than $30bln and is going backwards at a rate of knots while M&S has basically just stagnated and stood still for the past 20 years. In my good opinion Turnover means relatively little, it´s the margins and profits that matter. It also seems to me that Tesco´s management are not moving forward, they have striped out what the previous CEO did, got rid of the Jets, but what is new in town for Tesco´s. | loganair
30/5/2016 17:24 | yes at just under £3, a long time ago now, sold his last lot in October 14, over 18 months ago. This is now worth little over half it was then, and is now recovering. Don't take my word for it, have a look at the latest webcast and results Also check out the chart, and the potential inverted head and shoulders pattern forming | wallywoo
30/5/2016 13:41 | Has Warren Buffet sold out here?... | diku
30/5/2016 12:27 | loganair: you are deluded if you think a company has £55B in turnover (valued at £13B), and you think it is not going anywhere. I don't think it will be the same beast it used to be in future years, but neither do I think it will not be able to evolve in to a cash machine for present investors. It is tempting to think this trend will continue but this company just has too many things going for it, this is the turn around point IMO. | wallywoo
30/5/2016 11:44 | Because it has become so boring to chat about Tesco, being a company in my view that is not really going any where for quite some considerable time. The questions I ask my self are - Will Tesco´s: 1). Regain the 5.7% market share they have lost over the past 5 years. 2). Increase their margins to the 5% to 7% it once used to be. 3). Make the profit it used to make. It seems to me on all three questions the answer is very, very highly unlikely, therefore in my view the Tesco share price will not get up to where it was a few years ago and hence why I say Tesco has not become a share for Speculators who trade rather then the medium to long term investor. It is also highly likely that over the next few years Tesco will keep losing market share. | loganair

29/5/2016 17:14 | and to sum it up I am well off but would sooner be poor and have future for my grand children not a county full of low life criminals now in the uk from the rotten eu | portside1
29/5/2016 17:11 | house prices will go up if we leave the eu that is a cert I am voting out for the sake of my grand children . I can not find one thing that has been good for the working classes only bad our services have been destroyed A/E is full of migrants with health problems and that is fact not fiction our children struggling to get a home never mind to buy one . the uk has gone back to the 1950 . we need to protect the future of our children the left wing of politics and now Cameron and is cronies are now telling lies lies lies and if you look at most of the better off in campaigners you will see why they all suck from the eu either in land subs or like the kinnocks and the blair family get paid millions its a very simple vote for the working class if you want nhs schools doctors then vote out out out | portside1
29/5/2016 11:08 | Just to clarify... British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens who live in the UK, along with Britons who have lived abroad for less than 15 years, will be able to vote. Citizens from other European countries - apart from Ireland, Malta and Cyprus - will not get a vote on whether the UK remains part of the EU. Malta and Cyprus are both Commonwealth countries. | alibx11
29/5/2016 08:40 | Just in case Brexit were to happen does anybody really think its as easy as ABC to completely unwind/detach from EU?....it will be a case of UK is out of EU but we still are in the EU!!....if you know what I mean...I think its only a EU vote gauging exercise.... No doubt those EU voting residents already here will be voting to remain...heha.. | diku
28/5/2016 19:26 | Answer to above apparently is no, vote leave have said all current rights and freedom of movement will remain in place. So imho it is all something about nothing, I am not anti immigration, but clearly our country is suffering on many fronts due to our open door policy of the past. | hippo |
