Maybe some of these are not short positions and companies like BlackRock,FIL are in short position. But still doesn't make sense.

There's a limit to how much stock you can have 'on loan' .
I thought it was 10% certainly nowhere near 60.

jab, yes, cinven is serious about takeover
however, how much they will offer?
unless we have a bidding war like what happened to swg
I don't think cinven will increase the offer a lot, :(
though I know spi worth a lot more than current price
Simon is holding about 9% of share
and other shorters holding around 60%(don't know how the short position works)
that's totally about 70% of total issued share
Now Simon said, yes, let's talk
certainly Cinven heard his response
but how they are going to persuade other share holders?
maybe Cinven will take a Hostile takeover?
for us, small holders, have no power to decide anything
just sit and wait, eat and sleep

One thing to remember is that insti's took shares at £1 a year / two years? or so ago.

jab, there is slightly changes in company's respond.
the reply to first offer was " significantly undervalued"
now is just "undervalued"
I feel the company will talk to cinven if they improve the offer a bit more
and Simon's comment in FT also signal that

Did I not read the other day that someone was shorting this stock of just over 9 million ! Or was I dreaming that?

So we could well have a few more pennies a share rally if they're caught in on any future rally especially if we get another offer of 10p more.

Besides, like GSKB said, is very good point with stake building, although, I would imagine if we get some RNS over the few day's that they are, that would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons, I must say ! ;-)

I think it means \Spice are saying you have to up your price, before we start talks.

I reckon Cinven, will soon put a better bid in here very soon, probably 70p hoping to buy it for 80p...

It's sure going to hot up, and putting in a second higher bid, between 62-65 is a sure sign they mean business..imo ..;-)
