Nice little top up by Mr Birmingham to make 5%.Agree tintin/Buffetteer, a PE of 12 doesn't seem to reflect the growth, 15 seems more realistic to me - the sector is at 17.9 and the market 17.6 (according to Morningstar data).GLDD

If a PE of 12 is fine then how does a company like Howdens trade on a PE of 18-20x . It is a non branded supplier of kitchens to the trade - hardly a brand/ niche / speciality. Is suspect we should be nearer 15x due to the excellent returns it makes , leading market position , free cashflow yield and steady growth

Thanks Disco, just had a look at that article. We all value stock my different metrics but that guy really has assigned a low value to sfe. As one of the comments on that article posted howden joinery is on a pe of 19 and is in the same cyclic market as sfe, not that I really take much notice of the cyclic argument, much rather the progress in gaining market share and demonstrating that they can vastly outperform in a falling market

Ditto. For balance, article from Stocko (Paul Scott) yesterday:http://www.stockopedia.com/content/small-cap-value-report-16-jul-2015-dtg-sfe-fif-bju-103057/He seems to think a PE of up to 12 is ample - from ADVFN financials the 2 year average is 14.5.I suppose time will tell if the price has got a tad ahead of itself......270p + special div 10p-15p will do me fine though!.DD

Spent quite a bit of time this AM working out my new price target in light of the trading update. As things stand I am thinking a fair value target of 285p is not unreasonable. This is taking into consideration the reported growing cash pile and healthy increase in orders.

Encouraging signs here.
7.1% growth in order intake against 10.1% contraction in the market as a whole (no potential reasons given for the contraction in the RNS, but presumably due to uncertainty re the election? Anyone have any other ideas?).

And there is potential for a one-off special divi - see paleje's post #307 from Feb '15 re Simon Thompson post in IC:

-Investors also seem to be missing the point that with cash generation robust, there is scope for Safetsyle to announce a special dividend. In fact, analyst Adam Smith at brokerage Charles Stanley believes that “looking further ahead we believe there is the potential for a special dividend of between 10p-15p a share without putting undue pressure on the balance sheet”. Mr McEachran at N+1 Singer notes that with “cash generation strong at the very least a higher payout will be needed to return surplus cash”.

Quick calcs - H1 Rev £74m, so basic eps about 9p. Revs last year were not too seasonally weighted so assume year end approx. 18p. (consensus 17.6p according to DLook). However, perhaps the conservatory re-furb income will kick in more during H2 (only started April)?.Just taking 18p as the year end eps, at 15x PER (IMV seems reasonable given the growth and yield) that's a share price of 270p - some way to go yet by the looks of it.All IMV, DYOR, etc.GLDD

Agree, record market share of 9.5% when the market has contracted by 10% is very impressive to say the least.Net cash is up 38% compared to the same period last year.More detail in this update when compared to last year, and all positive, let's hope the market see's it the same way.DD

Agree tintin. Ive been a holder for a long time with these buying in around 165 a long time ago. I love the look of the company and its future development and expansion plans. The change in advertising strategy certainly has done it no harm.

Thanks poppyjade,There were about 179k of trades at that price, all showing as sells but the price didn't budge, so looks like your right. Thanks for the reminder on the trading update, hadn't got that in my diary.Been trying to see how the costs of glass have been doing, SFE mentioned this was the reason they had increased their prices to mitigate the increase in costs of glass production - still scouring the web but the commodity price of flat glass has fallen to about what it was Dec 14, so would guess their raw material costs have declined too. Find out next week I suppose.Puzzled me that they never mention the impact of cheaper crude oil (which is used to produce uPVC) or that they may hedge against the cost of oil.GLDD

I'm not sure these are sales.
Small sales have happened during the earlier part of today which as gradually brought the price down.
The quoted sell price of 210.875 is much closer to the 'buy' price then the 'sell' price.
Possibly trying to get some cheap shares in before next weeks likely trading update.
