rburtn.

Why do you presume everyone is as thick and naïve as you are?

Leeds, can this brilliant post go in the header?

And as a supplementary question, why do the hard left always assume they reach their own conclusions on the basis of careful consideration of the facts, but anyone who disagrees with them takes his opinion ready-made from the press?

There is a mass of misunderstanding in your post Leeds over the EU and the referendum.

1 It was advisory - the referendum
2 Our mendacious politicians have seized upon the opportunity it presents to make themselves more important - eg swanning around in jobs they are quite unqualified for.
3 The result of the referendum was procured by the press - Mail, Express, Sun, Telegraph - bludgeoning the public with fake news about the EU. basically it is too pink with the Social Chapter for the bright red capitalists who own the papers.
4 Our MP's are scared of the press.
5 France is now a bigger economy than the UK due to post-Referendum devaluation with Spain and Italy not far behind.

If democracy is manipulation of the public with self-serving twaddle, it was democratic, not my idea of a democracy. There might be a model which works for all outside the EU - but that is not the model the Brexiteers have in mind.

Will the FTSE100 (and RBS) emerge from the silo today?

The current game appears to be:

1. FTSE100 opens 0.5% higher.

2. NY opens and feints a fall. The FTSE100 closes flat or down.

3. NY rallies.

Wash, rinse and repeat.

leeds...ok, but I also differ when I consider WHO some of these 27 countries are with ZERO value to the UK. We will trade with the US, China the rest of the world and the germans are VERY wary of no deal with the UK! As the two 'super powers of europe' germany understands the loss of the UK from a business perspective....Barnier is a nobody and I think you will see us get stronger with this person from Brussels

cfc1, where you and differ, is that like Cameron & Osborne, and indeed Theresa May, I think that the result of the referendum is self inflicted harm.

But as a democratic country we are bound by the result.

Where I agree with the brexiteers is on the question of the UK's negotiated exit.

The moment Barnier was appointed to negotiate on behalf of the EU, Britain should hAve presented him with the terms upon which Britain would leave on a take it or leave it basis. If those who believe that the EU has more to lose than Britain are correct, the EU would have agreed those terms or at the very least negotiated around them.

Instead of which the Govt has shown that it is weak and disunited. The consequence is that the EU is attempting to divide and conquer.

"I'm sure I'll take you with pleasure!" the Queen said. "Two pence a week, and jam every other day."
Alice couldn't help laughing, as she said, "I don't want you to hire me – and I don't care for jam."
"It's very good jam," said the Queen.
"Well, I don't want any to-day, at any rate."
"You couldn't have it if you did want it," the Queen said. "The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday – but never jam to-day."
"It must come sometimes to 'jam to-day'," Alice objected.
"No, it can't," said the Queen. "It's jam every other day: to-day isn't any other day, you know."
"I don't understand you," said Alice. "It's dreadfully confusing!"
