19/1/2017 09:46 | I've closed the rest of my FTSE short @7,202.5 | skinny
19/1/2017 09:30 | I have SSE but at least some of the fall is ex dividend. -2°C here earlier and sunny. | skinny
19/1/2017 09:25 | Skinny, me too but you can add SSE, PETS & DX. to the list! Not the totally clear blue sky we were promised, but pretty cold again with the car showing -3°C on the way here. The passenger side mirror didn't move to position as it was frozen. | mrphil
19/1/2017 09:22 | DX. & SSE looking tempting for a top up although I'm pretty well stocked on SSE! | mrphil
19/1/2017 09:21 | Good Morning. Same here MrP - BP & NG for me. WJG is up again - pity its only a small holding. | skinny
19/1/2017 09:17 | Morning All. Well the SIPP is getting hammered this morning for some reason, not helped by PETS which have fallen off a cliff after inline trading results?? | mrphil
19/1/2017 07:57 | Loes of good UK updates, today. Only SIV is poor - and I hold that one! Fortunately, It's only a low weighting. | aleman
18/1/2017 19:01 | Another couple of big US names warn on weak holiday sales: | aleman
18/1/2017 18:23 | +0.08% for the Folio, [FTSE250 +0.39%] Highest value risers : GVC +2.8%, HSBA +1.8%, BLT +1.5%. Worst value fallers : HSD -1.9%, SDV -1%. Clinging drizzly day max 7C, sub zero temps with hard frosts & sunshine seem a world away from here. Have to travel to West Midlands tomorrow, so hoping for more of the same, can do without fog developing. | blueliner
18/1/2017 18:06 | I'm down -0.267% on the day, thanks to PSON (FTSE100 +0.377%). Worst falls: PSON -29.1%, LGEN -1.0% and TW. -0.8%. Best rises: RIO +2.6%, INDV +1.9% and CPG +1.7%. It would have been a good day had it not been for Pearson. Never mind, these things happen. -6°C this morning, still -2°C at lunchtime, but warmer in the sun. The frost stayed on the grass all day in the shade. Tomorrow depends on cloud cover. DF | deanforester
18/1/2017 17:24 | +0.1%. Afternoon no better here but mild at 8.3C. I hope crisp and sunny weather works its way up here. It's getting muddy in places. I can understand the very international FTSE100 ignoring UK numbers but the 250 probably should not have risen on the employment data. The small cap index seems to be paying attention a bit. It fell 0.5%. To be fair, the fall in total hours worked was miniscule, but it is a deteriorating trend and there will be a wash through into tax-take. We might see evidence of that in the public finances statement next week. | aleman
18/1/2017 17:04 | My SIPP finished down 0.15% A cold day here with frost in the shade - tonight looks to be similar. MrP - I had WJG on my list at float time, but only bought a few months ago. | skinny
18/1/2017 16:50 | Funny old day with swings and roundabouts throughout the day. The SIPP ended just about evens at +0.01% thanks to top risers UU., BP. & GSK but the pot suffered a bit and ended -0.18% all down to LLOY & LGEN Frost never cleared all day ready for another chilly one tonight. Tomorrow now forecast to be another lovely sunny day with a high of 6°C which is far better than we were expecting. Second episode of this weeks Silent Witness this evening. | mrphil
18/1/2017 16:17 | Don't know WJG Skinny but looks like they have done well since their float. | mrphil
18/1/2017 13:51 | In the last quarter, total people in work fell as did hours per week worked. Claimant count fell 10k but the underlying trend remained up. (It fell by less than normal for casual Christmas work - the seasonally-adjusted 3-month rolling average has now increased for 7 consecutive months.) The inactivity rate rose 85k in the last quarter. Redundancies and vacancies were flat on the quarter but the graphs very much look like they are trending in a bad way. In the last year UK-born employment increased 36k while non-UK born increased 430k so a net 92% of jobs created went to people born outside the UK. This is a second month of poor numbers so it's either a big blip or falling total hours worked indicate the UK economy is going into recession. | aleman
18/1/2017 12:02 | Brrrgh! A bit more hot air | mrphil
18/1/2017 11:43 | Good Morning. A lovely day here too - last night was probably the coldest of the Season so far @-5°C. | skinny
18/1/2017 11:30 | The car was reading -3°C on the way in but that's resulted in a beautiful sunny day! | mrphil
18/1/2017 10:02 | It was chilly down south last night. 5.7C low here but it's wet and grey again. 18/1/2017 09:53 | Trump trades are unwinding. Is optimism beginning to fade? More bond/banking troubles? Common sense prevailing after all other options exhuasted? | aleman
18/1/2017 08:50 | A few more months and the Managed Funds in the SIPP should be about the same value as the individual stocks so I can blame them if it all goes horribly wrong! | mrphil
18/1/2017 08:20 | If only it were that simple, MrP. Lots of shares might do well. International could do well since China is booming again. They sold 28m of the world's 77m new cars last year. Thw world's largest car market is booming. What will that do to international stocks? | aleman
18/1/2017 07:56 | Morning All. Thought this damn cough was finally showing signs of disappearing after a month, but I have had a relapse and now come out in a bit of a stinking cold as well, which I had avoided so far. Not helped by the -1.7°C I was faced with at 6:30 this morning when I checked the mouse traps in the shed! No takers, but the wildlife camera confirmed we still have visitors but I'm not sure what they will eat now we've moved all the dahlias and begonias into the garage! Aleman, will we come to regret not selling up ready for the fall, or is it just a case of accepting we're likely to have a turbulent time of it this year? | mrphil
18/1/2017 07:43 | Profit warnings getting worse? Pearson, Mitie and Premier Foods today. Perhaps a mild one from Wetherspoons - sales weaken a touch and caution about next year's costs. (Read Tim Martin's moan on Europe.) Burberry joined Tiffany's in reporting US sales falls. How can so may US retailers report falling sales yet US growth be normal? How can stockmarkets keep marching up with so much bad news about that wasn't there when indices were lower? | aleman |
