26/1/2017 14:45 | Earnings down, yields up. Market opens higher. Good news up. BAd news up. What's to worry about? | aleman
26/1/2017 13:41 | Whirlpool missed Q4 targets and reduced 2017 guidance. Caterpillar reduced guidance marginally. | aleman
26/1/2017 12:47 | Ford buying volume? Sales up $2bn. Costs up $6bn. THere was talk of record sales "incentives" this year to shift stock. Not a good trend anyway. 2017 forecasted to be down in US and Europe. Up in Africa, South America and Asia. | aleman
26/1/2017 11:52 | Not so many job loss announcements this week but one was potentially very big. | aleman
26/1/2017 10:02 | Annoyingly, I can't find the GDP deflator in today's release. Annoyingly, they took out the revenue and spending data from the borrowing release, as well. You know how they say that, if accounts are unclear, it is because they want them to be unclear ... | aleman
26/1/2017 09:46 | At least CAD $ versus £ is more reasonable than US $. Only a couple of years ago £/US was at 1.75! Fortunately I stocked up on CAD $ on trip last year so have enough for this trip. A bit of a blow YBS closing Norwich and Peterborough bank as that was my go to account for commision free cash withdrawals overseas. Still have a Nationwide Plus account which gives me the same but like to have a backup. Maybe someone else will spot the gap in the market. | shadowside
26/1/2017 09:46 | Unfortunately (from a watering point of view!), My Mrs S is coming with me :-) GBP Prelim GDP q/q 0.6% 0.5% 0.6% | skinny
26/1/2017 09:32 | Skinny. I don't think a few weeks makes a huge difference. Its more impatience on my part. I'm off skiing in Canada 2H Feb but fortunately Mrs S has retired from skiing so will have the responsibility of tending propagator whilst I'm away. Due to heat it tends to dry out pretty quickly. | shadowside
26/1/2017 09:22 | The low last night was -0.3C. Today is a bit of a shock after yesterday. It's currently 0C and grey and feels very chilly with a strengthening southerly. Given a forecast that shows a tight range of -1 to 0C thorugh th day, I can only hope we see a bit of brightness. At least it is dry. I have one new tomato appeared in the last couple of weeks and have no flowers left. The last couple of plants are just about hanging on but I'm not sue they will cotinue without some sunnier weather. | aleman
26/1/2017 09:20 | I bought some dollars on Friday @1.21 - I have to buy some more in the next 2 weeks, so any $ weakness is welcome. Off to Hastings shortly on a cold grey day! Shadowside - I can't really start anything yet as we are off to the States for a couple of weeks - I'll be playing catch up from late February. | skinny
26/1/2017 09:16 | Good to see £ strengthening a bit against euro ahead of hols. Presumably likely US ambassador to EU predicting Euro's collapse within 18 months will have helped. Have added BMS to SIPP/Pot. Metrics now look reasonable. Had detailed trawl through portfolio over weekend looking particularly for anything that had large foreign currency input/low pricing power and sterling output/low pricing power but couldn't see any obvious weakness. Now hold about 30 shares and SIPP/Pot pretty much aligned. Have a couple of things I weant to trim in Pot but up against stops on CGT so will leave until after 05/04. Everything in propagator germinated well although with grey days light levels a bit low. Tomatoes may get a bit leggy but usually OK if I just sink down when I pot them up. Bought some seed potatoes ( Duke of York/Charlotte) and are chitting in spare bedroom. | shadowside
26/1/2017 08:59 | Morning, max temp forecast to be 0C . The BT.A scandal could run & run, to me as a v longstanding customer then shareholder taking one's eye off the ball in pursuit of another ball resonates. Senior management should pay back those performance based bonus. Buying any business from Berlusconi should have been enough of a red flag. Watching this list expand in a good cause, incl our nearby City Council | blueliner
26/1/2017 08:28 | Morning All. WTB did say "On track to deliver full year results in line with expectations" | mrphil
26/1/2017 07:52 | Haven't spotted any nasties yet, today. Only a slight slowdown in Whitbread's pubs and restaurants. | aleman
25/1/2017 22:47 | Bad Q4 numbers drag Mattel down on year. | aleman
25/1/2017 21:48 | A bit late today, having got back from the Alliance Trust Shareholders' Forum when it was time for supper. An interesting meeting and Willis Tower Watson gave a good account of how they plan to run the portfolio management with 8 fund managers. I'm up +0.055% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.197%). Best rises: S32 +3.5%, ADM +2.7% and IMI +2.5%. Worst falls: VOD -3.2%, KGF -2.5% and TSCO -1.9%. I'm still lagging behind the market - must do better. Foggy all day and just below freezing now. DF | deanforester
25/1/2017 20:49 | Just +0.08% for Burn's night. [FTSE250 +0.18%] Highest value risers : PEW +2.4%, CLIG +2%, RTC +2.4%. Worst value fallers : BLT -1.6%, BMS -3%, GVC -1.4%. At least MCS statement was received with some positivity. Wall to wall, outside chilly in wind, car windows were conducting heat though, a first this year. | blueliner
25/1/2017 17:56 | Don't remind them of that Aleman, you'll have that crazy woman threatening all sorts! | mrphil
25/1/2017 17:37 | Scottish blood, MrP? Not that it matters since Haggis is English. | aleman
25/1/2017 17:06 | A positive day at last, SIPP +0.10% thanks to LLOY, PEW & ALD and the pot managed +0.73% again thanks to LLOY with help from LGEN & SGC Burns Night tonight, we had our Haggis, Neaps & Tatties at lunchtime but didn't risk a whisky accompaniment. Who Do You Think You Are tonight and might try and catch up on Endeavour. | mrphil
25/1/2017 16:52 | Broadly unchanged, today. It's been glorious today. It felt like the first day of spring. After a hint of frost and a 0.5C low, we had wall to wall sunshine - at last - and a 5.8C high that felt warmer. On the road the car indicated 9C at one point near Leeds where they probably did not have any overnight fog. On the school run I noted crocuses and daffs sprouting all over the place and we have a batch of primroses coming into bloom to join the couple that came out in that cold sunny spell in November. Media talking the economy down, now? This article has been syndicated around the regionals. | aleman
25/1/2017 16:16 | Aleman, INTU don't have one in Leeds so at least it isn't theirs! The SIPP was well up this morning but I see it has been drifting downwards all afternoon and is in danger of yet another fall at this rate. | mrphil
25/1/2017 15:44 | Poor numbers from another US restaurant chain (although Chili's will be familiar to UK consumers). Big slowdown in lending for this bank in Q4. Rising auto loan defaults hit results from Santander US. I went back to that Leeds shopping centre today. Of the 8 units inside that closed down in the weeks running up to Christmas, 7 are still vacant and advertised to let. That is not good for the shopping centre owners, whoever they might be. ( I did not have time to scout around outside.) | aleman
25/1/2017 12:47 | From earlier :- CBI Industrial Order Expectations 5 2 0 | skinny |
