27/11/2016 10:09 | just had a closer look at Macoms proposed acquisition of Applied Micro and trying to figure out the implications for us. Macom are a longstanding and key customer for us , and in Gan on Silicon they will be pivotal. obviously with NDA's we dont know how much we supply to their other business divisions. pivotal is that we dont know if Applied micro is a customer for our epistaxial wafers already, if not this provides a massive opportunity for their market share the fit with Macom and Advanced micro looks great , and certainly the type of businesses that are supplied fall fully within our catalogue of provision, this could be very good for us going forward the KEY word for their synergism is CONNECTIVITY and thats where we tie in - literally everything in the global connected digital world going forward will NEED compound semiconductors read this from the Macom CEO talking about the deal, Within AppliedMicro there is a very complementary, very accretive business called Connectivity and we'll be talking about that in more detail, which is a golden nugget, in our opinion that we wish to retain. In acquiring that Connectivity business, we believe it will accelerate and expand our breakout growth that we already reported earlier last week, breakout in cloud service provider and enterprise network customers, that is data centers, which we believe, again, is a strategic basis for this acquisition. The timing is perfect, the window of opportunity is perfect and it is very synergistic on the upside for, frankly, both parts of the portfolio. i like the golden nugget comment- and thats being applied to services we provide for :-) if you are interested and have the time look at the transcript that accompanies the presentation there are a LOT of key words in there lasers, vcsels, connectivity, cloud ,data centres etc etc etc -it goes on and on that are all reatcheting up in production , we supply them ALL S | sweenoid
25/11/2016 15:33 | I am after the big money here , not a few quid, consolidation for me is the order of the day till the trading statement 'hopefully' pushes us on. Consolidation effectively means weak holders are eliminated or take a healthy profit, whilst there is a steady stream of new money coming in to cement foundations, its very healthy. have a good weekend all S | sweenoid
25/11/2016 14:46 | i want 45p next bloody week :p | leeson31
25/11/2016 14:45 | Who needs consolidation sweenoid - I want Canaccord's 51p and I want it now :o)) Mind you, I'm intending to hold on for a lot more than that over time. | rivaldo
25/11/2016 12:40 | 37p paid... next leg up? maybe ~42.5p... | leeson31
25/11/2016 11:31 | Sweenoid - IQE taking a bite out of the chip fabrication process with its NIL capability in Taiwan. Again moving the business up the feedchain with consequent beneficial margin impact. All good as you say. | sspurt
25/11/2016 11:06 | Someuwin my po na na, slug and lettuce, springwood, chorion and urbium days are well past. Had fun with them, especially going to the new Tiger Tiger openings nationwide and doing the Chorion owned London bar crawls ( all in the aid of good research) I actually was dragged into a Revolution bar in Clapham recently, we had a fun night :-) back to IQE....what a simply wonderful chart, a nice consolidation here like we got at 30-32p will suit me nicely S | sweenoid
25/11/2016 09:20 | O/T sweenoid - Don't know if you're still into bars (investing in them not frequenting them!). If so you might want to take a look at Revolution Bars Group (LSE:RBG). See respected accountant and analyst paulypilots's post #10 on this thread... | someuwin
25/11/2016 07:16 | I know some philistines detest R&D but its rather essential, 2017 will see the fruits of years of research , it must go on I was 'banging on' about NIL -nano imprint lithography in another post so this seems apposite ;-) The suggested potential cost savings if proved to be accurate would be a major selling point Either ways, isn't it nice that important research is in effect being 'funded' not by revenues but by 'grants' Of course despite IQE bing centre to the compound semiconductor centre, it's involvement in the University 'system' also helps research and gets us a supply of bright young things graduates already immersed in compound semiconductor issues :-) S | sweenoid
24/11/2016 18:46 | There are many companies in the "graphene field" and most have really tanked this yr. | big7ime
24/11/2016 17:01 | I am a long term IQE holder and always enjoy reading this thread - very informative. Re those interested in graphene which has been mentioned a bit recently - slightly o/t - hope that's OK - I would suggest having a look at Directa Plus (DCTA). Italian company that IPO'd on AIM recently. IMO it looks very interesting but I'm not going to take up any more IQE space. | terry topper
24/11/2016 14:14 | No post from american idiot lately. | jugu
24/11/2016 13:22 | If anyone is interested this is a good article about the merits of GAN on silicon over LDMOS ( incumbent technology) and also GAN on silicon carbide, this is for base stations but can be applied to any other field where GAN on silicon is proposed -RF power etc We supply the wafer , Macom supplies the product to its OEM's We seem to have lost those tiresome pumpers and dumpers ;-) S | sweenoid
24/11/2016 13:07 | I didn't even realise what IQE stood for until I read this... GaN Industrial Devices Market Key Trends, Challenges, Standardization and Forecast Gallium Nitride (GaN) has a wide band gap and owing to its advanced features such as high breakdown voltage, high switching frequencies, enhanced power efficiency, high conduction and thermal stability, GaN is largely being preferred for numerous applications. 24/11/2016 08:26 | Me too, always feel that momentum is lost on positive news flow in December as Christmas dampens any upward movement. January would be better. | tini5
24/11/2016 08:21 | Or January! Last 2 years 15th December 2015 & January 5th 2015 Once again MY preference is for Jan S | sweenoid

23/11/2016 18:21 | Toffeeaple 36.25p was previous high close, It's 36.5p today, so it is a 5 year high, your URL to fingers thread, mentions a 'pivot' pt share price at 37.5p ( I think that's what he is getting at) Either ways it's an important share price for many, that's whT I point it out , it's frankly irrelevant to me, my sights are set much higher and will be achieved by the fundamental performance not a squiggly line ;;-) However I do enjoy a good chart when it's looking good Macom heading to a 5 year high too, not bad after just announcing a mega-acquisition...w S | sweenoid
23/11/2016 17:06 | Leeson......... FXD | bigbigdave
23/11/2016 17:05 | What's the thread ticker/code for fingers thread please? | leeson31
