Rose ,

I think that is a fair assessment.

My average buying price between 2010 and 2012 is 38.7p. I sold a fair percentage following recent results .Whilst I concede that GFM may do very well in future ,they are high risk and , to date , unexciting.I added heavily to my largest holding, FSJ, over the same period I bought GFM; to date these are up over 300%: a big gain for a lot less risk . The moral is why take big risks?

roddiemac2 - post 26285 - "A poor investment over recent years: best avoided."

The share price 5 years ago was 41.625p. Numerous problems (mine suspensions, buying out the Chinese and taking on debt, the drop in commodity prices, etc..) and the price dropped to 27.25p in April 2013, 31p in April 2014, 29.75p in April 2015, 26.87p in April 2016, and 56p today.

So, anyone buying in during "recent years" would have made a profit. I wish I'd sold out when the shares went over £1, but it can hardly be called a poor investment "over recent years". It's been a pretty good one for those willing to continue to hold, or to add during the drops.

We will all have some losers; that's just how it is. Warren Buffet lost $444m on Tesco.

I think that both the high cost of management
and the lack of dividend affect the share price.
The only "return" available is when you sell for
a capital gain. We need a return for those who
hold shares if new buyers are to be attracted.
Otherwise it is only "greater fools" that will
take your non-performing shares off your hands.

So you agree with the payments to the company run by one of the BOD'S wifes?

The directors remuneration argument is a personal chip on the shoulder and not relative to the share price. I also have been a holder for many years but am in profit because I diluted my overall buying price when at the 25-35p range.

And I've been a holder for a little longer than that from 93p. So given the renumeration package for the board and one of the wife's I deem them to be using the company as a private bank with total disregard for the share holders.

I've been a holder since 2005. Is that long enough for you?

alan@bj,

There have been a number of opportunities for short term traders to do well in the last five years , but long term investors have not made much here.I am well aware that the share price has doubled from its low of last year : so what? The shares have only recently gone above where they were five years ago: a continual jam tomorrow story. There are much better investments elsewhere.

I don't think my 44% return is too bad an investment.

Both the zinc price and the stocking levels
dropping. How long can that last?

A clearer, more explicit, statement regarding the company's expectations over the next financial year would have helped. The go ahead for further exploration is of little value without a licence.

Agreed fabulous second half. Prospects seemingly bright and tinged with some nice gold figures. Dividends in 2018 would do me as debt is so dangerous in this sector....unless they get that license in zone II then accelerate the divi.

Watching zinc price though and hope things work well tween China and US next week.

Cantor Fitzgerald may want to raise their 95p price target after these results.

Cannot support the stance of the board once again to not pay a dividend. There has to be a balance and as pointed out we are approximately a year away from potentially being debt free. The figures are looking very good and the outlook is excellent. However... It would be more prudent to maintain a proportion of debt and reinstate a dividend.

Bank loans down from 63m to 44m. Could be almost cleared in 12 months.

Figures look very good, particularly when you look at the first 6 months, which had a pre tax loss of 4m. That means in just 6 months we had a pre tax profit of 14m. If zinc prices hold for the year or even improve, we are looking at a 2017 full year profit in region of 30m!
