It will be interesting to see whether our '25k seller' yesterday reappears again this morning now that the share price has firmed.

I think i know the culprit. ;-)

Judging by the movement and volume increase it looks like it was likely tipped by Simon Thompson of IC. He normally announces his tips at 12.00 on a monday...

Therefore i would expect the share price to fall back as that is usually the case with his tips as buyers move in and then back out again in short order.

I wonder if the company won any material contracts in January that would cause a material uplift in profit ?

Well, with the 4 week delay that other posters think is perfectly normal/acceptable
( ;-) ) I guess we would/will be told near the end of February !
...a few weeks to wait

$ELCO.L @elecosoftplc rapid appointment of new FD: David Pearson, ICAP and UBS experience plus IT skills - looks a good fit.

My comment was meant as a 'general' one.....

.....And, before any words are twisted round, that is not 'general' as in 'Custer' either! :0)

...Rule 11 imho requires that if a company gets a material surge of business in late December then the mkt should be advised in.....you guessed it....late December...and not 4-5 weeks later.
...Im only referring to the text of the rules, I dont write the rules.

(imho during that 4-5 weeks people that knew about the contracts signed could have perhaps been buying shares..thinking they were cheap based on the new contracts adding business and profit..while ignorant PIs, that didnt know, sold shares....and if they had known about the contracts won then would not imo have sold at that price of around 30p....)

---

but perhaps note that I think the whole reporting thing needs changing...

it is ridiculous imho that PIs risk their hard earned cash on listed companies...
and then suddenly out of the blue some companies announce....
"well everything is terrible and out of the blue we are breaking bank covenants and need a rescue cash raise"
and a share price collapses 70%
it happens
...its crazy...
(Im not talking about ELCO but about AIM....

and also AIM needs to be better regulated...
Globo, Quindell, Lamprell, CPP, Cupid and many many more
...the number of scandals is disgraceful....
but AIM does nothing to change...

ANSC you may think everything is wonderful and nothing needs changing, each to their own view.

-----

To be clear, I am not talking just above about ELCO ( I have no concerns at all about the accounts being true) but about AIM mkt generally

(except that I do think the trading news should have been earlier (ie. when the contracts were won/signed, (and I note that they were surely discussed with sales dept. for weeks/months before, they didnt arrive out of the blue imo at the fax machine !!, but each to own view)

Smithie6 30 Jan '17 - 14:13 - 243 of 243 (Filtered)

Spot on, interceptor2. Rather than whinge pitifully, I telephoned the company and they confirmed that there was a late-December surge of business reported. As with a substantial number companies in the construction industry, ELCO were closed over the Christmas period through to the end of the first week in January after which some of management went over to one of their Germany subsidiaries to introduce ICON.

As I've suggested before, poor losers feel the need to place blame elsewhere being unable to admit to their own mistake. Hence the filter button for me.

We can politely agree to disagree, no problem.
And applause for being polite, not everyone is if they disagree)

( AIM rule 11 includes for informing mkt if expect to exceed expectations...ie. in advance of a fin. year end ( imho anyway)....if win contracts...
They have budgets & managers & finance staff to manage/monitor fin. numbers....if their monthly sales data is above or below targets then they know....before the year end..

Ah, I know that companies issue warnings in advance of fin. year end....logic says they can hence also do it for the opposite case)
----

while I agree with you that it is what most companies seem to do....report in late Jan if trading has been above expectations to end Dec ....
but imho AIM rule 11 requires immediate or almost immediate noticification to the mkt; not x weeks later
And material winning of contracts is also required to be immediately or almost immediately notified....to avoid obvious risks of insider trading.

----

Money in bank accounts. They know.
Invoices waiting to be paid...they know.
Staff costs ..they know...
Not that complicated imho

New FD appointment announced this morning.

No problem with you being pedantic Smithie6.

But still disagree that this company has acted wrongly, they have acted like all other decent companies that I have followed by being careful and awaiting until after the year end before updating the market.

It is actually less common for a company to release a trading update before the year end but it does happen sometimes, most will wait until after the year end.

Sorry but I fail to see why you are still unhappy with the way Elco have acted.

Interceptor2

Btw...(from before)

If I can be pedantic....!

AIM rule 11.
..says

...'report/inform without delay'
- blah
- blah
- blah
- 'change in EXPECTATION in performance'

The RNS should imo have been issued in Nov. or Dec because the co. has directors & managers who monitor sales perf against targets & forecast labour needed vs labour existing....etc etc....they knew the data and didnt suddenly discover it by surprise in late January !!

Rule 11 says "expectation"....
Dictionary says that it means IN ADVANCE !

Greenwood appointed FD in 2015 and stepped down in summer 2016

& Spratling became the FD in summer 2016 and now stepping down !!....being FD for less than 1 year !!...although he was/is an FD controller at ELCO for about 9 yrs...

recently gave notice to leave just after issuing the accounts...

...added to other frequent exec dir changes/depatures in past year

musical chairs ?

does ELCO hold the record for changing dirs....endlessly ??
is the exec chairman impossible to work with or whats going on ?
