Hi bracke,

I think we have chatted about these differences in our approach before.

My investment approach is to buy and hold, mostly mutual funds, perhaps taking some profits from time to time, but only if I see a better proposition elsewhere to reinvest the funds or to reduce risk.

AHT is a special case, over many years I have reduced my AHT holding by 75% from its highest, and the cost per share of the residual holding is only £2.27. You could argue that if I had not sold any AHT shares at all, then I would have made more profit, but any AHT proceeds have always been reinvested elsewhere, and of course spread the risk.

Generally I am now content to leave this investment to grow in the safe hands of the AHT management, provided the company fundamentals remain sound, rather than try to 'time the market' by short term trading. AHT is a company I like to own, and I have no sell target. As it is part of a wider portfolio, I sleep soundly at night!

However, to each his own as we agree, and I do enjoy watching yourself and other traders trying to beat the odds 😄 . All credit to you for sharing your experiences, and I wish you luck!

That's a lot of volume for a very small range.

Honours even between buyers and sellers.

Good day ian

Your first paragraph - Agree.

Your second paragraph - Depends how far you expect the channel to descend. Assuming that you are investing to make a profit at what point do you sell? It does not make sense to continue holding and see your profit disappear. To continue holding on the basis that 'it will stop soon' is 'nuts'. Investors as well as traders need to have a sell level in mind.

I may have mentioned this before. I have a friend who invests in shares but has no great interest in them, it's somewhere to put his money and make some interest. On more than one occasion his shares have risen well, turned and then fallen back to and below his purchase price, it has cost him several thousands in lost profit. He has complained and my retort was along the lines of 'do you expect them to rise forever!'.

Kenny Rogers was correct whether you are a trader or an investor. Remember you can always buy back in.

Good afternoon bracke,

My impression is that at a macro level we are in a descending channel, with a sucession of lower highs and lower lows since the March high, but of course I know little of the dark arts of TA, and am happy to be corrected!

Not necessarily a problem if you are a committed 'long term' long, (me? ..guilty as charged), but if you have a shorter horizon, a few words from Kenny Rogers song, The Gambler, might help:

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run…..... 😄

Hope this helps!

but only just.

Given the reputation of this share price I am expecting it to deliver a lifestyle to which I would like to become accustomed.

The share price continues to look weak. It's going to require something special in June to shake it out of its malaise.

I got a quote from my broker which was approx 1495 but was distracted and it timed out. By the time I got another quote it was at the price I bought at.

It now needs to break the downtrend and close at a higher high. Until then it remains in risk territory.

Good day uppomeii

I fully appreciate that my AHT purchase may be seen as an 'about face'. I simply assess the situation and trade accordingly. How long I will hold the shares I don't know, I will analyse as ususual. It's quite possibly that I will short them even though I hold them.....different timeframes.

I am unaware of Elite Guru impeachment but there have been demotions. You will remember(you will never let me forget) I came close with my ill-timed short. I still suffer with flshbacks.... most distressing.

Not being a Tweeter you will not see such a Tweet but in the immortal words of that renowned thespian the late Kenneth Williams 'Informe, Informe AHT has got it Informe'

I do hope bracke doesn't let us or, more importantly himself, down this time. The world is watching.

Has a restored Elite Guru ever been impeached?

I hope I don't see a Tweet like this "No EG Has Been Treated Worse Or More Unfairly Than Me"

Bracke,

I'm sure you're right. I think it is the uncertainty regarding Trump's tenure that will roil the markets, once action is taken I am sure it will unfold as you suggest.

Plenty of opportunities in the meantime, methinks!

Good day ian

As you are well aware I know all about hot water so be careful.

My AHT purchase - So far so good but it's very early days.

Knowing the market, the reaction to a Trump impeachment would probably be similar to election win; a large fall followed by a large rise. He will do well if he completes his full term.

Good afternoon bracke,

You wouldn't want to know her, I fear she and her friend very nearly got me into hot water!

Glad to see that your AHT investment seems very well timed, and fruitful, I expect there will be much carousing in the bracke household this weekend!

Have a good weekend all, but remember, it's not over 'till the fat guy is impeached, and no doubt further exciting developments await. :-)

'elegant sufficiency'
=====================

Hmmm....well put. Gourmet rather than glutton.

You should be seeing three spikes to the fork not six.

There will be much moaning if AHT does not deliver the goods but with Mr Trump as President who knows!

Hi Bracke, have just returned from a Thai lunch with an 'elegant sufficiency' of BYOB New Zealand Sauvignon, hic!

I took a quick look at Andrew's pitchfork, but suspect it might be clearer if I take another look tomorrow!

Thanks again for your input, always appreciated, and Good Luck with your purchase, I hope it flourishes.

Good day uppompeii

I thought you would be posting.

It did take some effort to remove the wallet from its location. The locks were rusted and I had difficulty remembering the combinations.

My memories of holding AHT shares in the distant past are filled with negative thoughts. I consider that this time AHT 'owes me' and will be very upset if I am disappointed.

I consider to-day's drop to the Daily SMA 200 significant. I have therefore bought some. I will now pause for a moment to allow readers to recover from the shock..........

I am not certain that the share price will not drop lower but will add to my position if it continues to fall and reaches what I consider to be an appropriate buying zone.

I should add that in addition to the drop to the Daily SMA 200 it was immediately supported at the Lower Parallel (for explanation look up Andrew's Pitchfork).
