TSX Venture ExchangePrimarily for smaller or emerging companies, the TSX Venture Exchange (also known as the TSXV) is a Canadian stock exchange based in Calgary, Alberta. The market was previously known as the Canadian Venture Exchange or CDNX prior to its acquisition by the TMX group, which also owns the Toronto Stock Exchange. All trading on TSX Venture is done electronically; the exchange does not have an actual trading floor. The stock market has a combined market capitalization of around CA$61 billion. Trading HoursThe TSX Venture Exchange's trading hours are 9:30am to 4pm ET, with a post-market sessions running from 4:15pm until 5pm.  HistoryThe TSX Venture Exchange was founded in 1999 when the Vancover and Alberta stock exchanges merged to form what was then known as the CDNX or Canadian Venture Exchange. The CNDX was originally a merger of the (VSE) Vancouver Stock Exchange and the (ASE) Alberta Stock Exchange. The TSXV now also incorporates the Winnipeg and Montreal exchanges. The CNDX was bought by TMX Group in 2001 and renamed TSX Venture Exchange. Main IndexThe S&P/TSX Venture Composite is the main index for TSXV. Listed CompaniesThe TSXV now lists around 2,350 small cap companies. A large proportion of these companies are in the oil & gas and mining sectors.
