The trouble seems to be that he is attracted to flamboyant characters. This is a sure fire way to lose money for your investors. Boring is the way to go Neil...you remember..when you were a value investor rather than a speculator. It was dull, but you made money!

@ltcm the market in general is down, but Woodford's funds have fallen further.
Woody's been warning for ages that the market is overvalued ("I've lost count of the flashing red warning lights") and that there is going to be a market crash. I agree with him on this. Yet instead of positioning himself in defensive stocks like he did with the dot com bubble, he is invested in assorted cyclicals near the peak of their share price (real estate companies and financials) and a bunch of faddy biotech companies that will crash first when money starts being pulled out of the market. And instead of going to cash, he maxes out on his debt to buy more overpriced assets.

Each time there is a mini correction in global stock markets, Woody's performance falls even further. It's sad really.

I don't think this Stobart spat is doing Woodford any favours.

He should choose his 'friends' more carefully.

AGM's are an opportunity for the management to reassure investors that they are heading in the right direction.
It was desperately needed here, but investors remain doubtful.

NW seems to have lost his touch.
He used to invest in solid, almost boring, Warren Buffett type shares.
But now he seems attracted to weaker companies.
Purple bricks who charge you even if they fail to sell your house.
The AA loaded with eye watering debt.
provident financial the doorstep lender for the permanently broke
per-leez.

He should dump the lot and get back on track.
there is plenty of value out there.

WPCT is different.
here we are trusting him and his team to come up with some early stage hidden gems.
He seems to have a worrying habit of falling for the optimistic nonsense that CEO'S and their presentation teams sell to him.
Presentations, overheads, mission statements, strategies...he needs to change his bullsh*t filter.

A sub-advised mandate run by Neil Woodford has fallen by almost a fifth over the last year, delivering investors even worse results than his own in-house fund.

The Old Mutual Woodford Equity Income fund has fallen 18.5% over the past year, compared to 12% falls in the flagship Woodford Equity Income fund.

While many investors have been concerned about Woodford’s exposure to early-stage companies in his main funds, the Old Mutual Woodford Equity Income fund only invests in listed equities, but has still significantly underperformed.

Over three years, the Old Mutual Woodford Equity Income fund has fallen 7.7%, compared to a 29.2% rise in the FTSE all-share benchmark over the same period.

So, yet again, Minerve, you are totally sure of your facts on the Stobart Case?

You do not have a good record in this regard. Facts do not seem to be important to you.

To be fair, topvest has an even worse record. For him lying is an everyday, normal activity. In his warped mind, if he is found out and he says sorry, and deletes the evidence, it's all OK, (Then he has the cheek to go rabbitting on about integrity)

As for winnie his contributions on this thread alone are littered with lies, and misrepresentations.

You don't have to listen to what I say. Just stay with your head in the sand and lose money - that is fine with me old boy! LOL

Topvest,
I Back up what you say about Iain Ferguson,
It puts things in a very different light.

I wasn't sure about this until I checked the backgrounds of the two. Just look at the credentials of Iain Ferguson. I'm a shareholder in Personal Assets Trust and they employ Buffett style ethics. He is very unlikely to be the guilty party. So, its Top Corporate Governance vs. Tinkler, Woodford and Cenkos, all of which have form for being a bit racy. Not a difficult one if you are objective!

OTOH it is very unfair to Woodford if the allegations which involve him turn out to be baseless. Personally I would be ASTONISHED if he has done anything less than 100% fair dealing over this. It really doens't seem like his style. Perhaps Stobart have badly overplayed their hand and 'warn off' tactics have backfired???

I think the more interesting angle is Woodford's backing of an entrepreneur who is in the firing line yet may be better at making money than the current board. On one hand you can say it is couragous and loyal, on the other is this part of a wider theme of getting management calls wrong. It is arguable PFG, AA, CPI, Northwest Biotheraputics and especially RM2 were all brought low through their own fault and Woodford has backed them all.

You've got to say Woodford has some answering to do. On the face of it, it doesn't look good.

I can see both of them nodding wisely and gravely. And there's Minerve taking a judicious, philosophical suck on his pipe. CERTAINTY is only given to the very few..... Gosh I wish I was them. Sob Sob.

(Editor's note: Are you sure Minerve was sucking his OWN pipe?)

Wonderful portentous thoughts. Two heavy thinkers. LOL

The sky WILL fall on WPCT no doubt about that. I'm already in my Anderson shelter. Got lots of corned beef and condensed milk.

Bring back winnie, please....... Winnie Churchill, I mean, of course. Great, great man.
