26/4/2023 10:07 | Peel Hunt: Whitbread on a growth path Premier Inn owner Whitbread (WTB) is forecasting revenue growth in an environment that is increasingly tough for its competitors, says Peel Hunt. Analyst Ivor Jones reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of £40 on the stock, which rose 3.9%, or 122.9p, to £32.49 yesterday. Full-year 2023 results from the group came in above the top end of the published consensus range, with pre-tax profits of £413m. It was announced £100m is to be returned through a final dividend of 49.8p per share as well as an additional £300m share buyback. ‘Current trading is strong and implies upgrades; cost inflation of 7-8% is expected but management is confident that revenue growth could offset this,’ said Jones. ‘Life continues to be very tough for competitors.’ Jones said he is not ‘forecasting rapid growth, but growth for a very long time’ and said the market ‘has yet to get to grips with the potential for Premier Inn to be the leading hotel company in Germany’. He added that ‘forecast momentum is positive and costs are well under control’ and he expected ‘valuation multiples to rise to reflect these factors.’ citywire.com | philanderer

25/4/2023 07:08 | FY preliminaries Dividend 49.4p XD 22 June Paid 7 July 2023... fair but nothing to write home about whilst Capital Growth prospects look good ! Overview • Significant profit uplift to above pre-pandemic levels, driven by Premier Inn UK that continues to outperform the UK midscale and economy ('M&E') market • We are making good progress in Germany, with 51 hotels open, giving us confidence that we can achieve our long-term target of 10-14% return on our £1bn of committed capital • We see considerable opportunities for growth, both in the UK and Germany, driven by the strength of our operating model and the structural decline in the independent hotel sector • Current trading remains strong, despite macroeconomic uncertainty, with encouraging lead indicators | togglebrush
18/4/2023 13:57 | Peel Hunt again... Premier Inn’s German expansion makes Whitbread a ‘buy’ Premier Inn owner Whitbread (WTB) is reaching the turning point in terms of scale as it hurtles towards 50 hotels in Germany, says Peel Hunt analyst Ivor Jones. With only six Premier Inns across Germany before Covid, investors ‘never had a chance to assess the Premier Inn business as a trading entity in Germany, Jones said, recommending the group a ‘buy’, given its cohort of hotels that are ‘contributions positive, which should encourage investors to re-evaluate.’ ‘It was clear that the roll-out (and conversion) of hotels is planned rigorously and executed efficiently, with a focus on getting the hotels into operation as quickly as possible,’ he added, giving a target price of £40. Peel Hunt believes the shares, trading at nearly 18 times forecast earnings, could rise a third from their current level. The shares firmed 0.7% or 20p to £31.06 yesterday. citywire.com | philanderer

14/4/2023 19:49 | Peel Hunt upgrades Whitbread to 'buy' Peel Hunt upgraded Whitbread on Friday to ‘buy’ from ‘add’ and hiked the price target to 4,000p from 2,850p as it expects positive trading news from the company this year, starting with the prelims on 25 April. "We believe that demand for UK budget hotels remains very strong with leisure and ‘blue collar’ demand particularly robust and ‘white collar’ demand still recovering," it said. "In terms of costs, we believe that we are past the worst in terms of labour cost inflation and there is some upside from lower energy costs, although not this year which is 75% hedged." Peel Hunt said that in the medium term, it reckons investments in technology will pay off in the form of higher revenue, from offering more room price points more dynamically, and more efficient marketing, from targeting it where data shows it will get the best return. In the longer terms, it expects Premier Inn in Germany to prove its investment case by becoming the largest hotel chain in Germany and a material contributor to profit.
