A lot hinges on their post-lockdown sales (how far down is it vs last year?). You and I don't know what the group sales were over the weekend, however there are many employees and insiders who know exactly what those sales were. That's why it's down imho.

I think a lot depends how long social distancing lasts is it here for good?

Personally I doubt it we have gone from Pubs fully shut with 2 meter social distancing and upwards of a thousand deaths a day to most pubs opening halving the distancing and less than 100 deaths a day in 3 months.

I would be surprised if we do not see more lifting of restrictions in the next 3 months PROVIDED we don't get a second wave. Also testing and tracking is likely to improve and we could get a vaccine.

The other scenario is we get a full on second wave with pubs forced to shut again, if that happens all bets are off!

Still carrying substantial debt and how much are Spoons asserts going to be worth with the effect of plage recession reduced cash flow ? unlikely paying dividend they will stop buying the shares, reduce debt..

Financing
As at 26 January 2020, the company's net debt, including bank borrowings and finance leases, but excluding derivatives, was GBP804.5m, an increase of GBP67.5m, compared with that of the previous year end (2019: GBP737.0m).
The net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio was 3.54 times at the period end (28 July 2019: 3.36 times).

On 20 August 2019, the company entered into a new seven-year private placement agreement, which extends its total facilities, excluding finance leases, from GBP895m to GBP993m.

As previously stated, it is intended that the company's net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio will be around 3.5 times for the foreseeable future. The ratio might rise for a temporary period, if there were, for example, a sudden deterioration in trading, in which instance the company would seek to reduce the level in a timely manner. Insofar as it is possible to generalise, the board believes that debt levels of between 0 and 2 times EBITDA are a sensible long - term benchmark. A higher level of debt may be justifiable - at times when interest rates are low and other factors are favourable.

Good input chestnuts thanks although I don't think they will go bust.

Agree konradpuss this will take a while to get back to "normal".

I also think there is an issue that just like online many people have got used to a new way of doing things and are drinking at home/in the garden with friends especially as they notice like I have the amount they have saved while not going out!

I think so many people are still quite fearful so I am not expecting great figures i'm
afraid.

It's going to take probably a year or two, that is assuming there is not another spike for some normality to return.

In the long run, I think 'Spoons' is the winner due to its pricing structure and the major recession we are entering. When money gets tight a treat will be a trip to good old 'Spoons'.

Indeed EI.

Of course the market looks at events ahead of time so by the time the actual evidence is in price will probably of adjusted. However buying now is a step into the unknown. We should start to get a few clues in the next few weeks as we see how busy they are after the initial surge.

Tim, would agree. There will clearly be some pent up demand.
Would guess that around October may give a better read of underlying strength, or otherwise.
Also applies to the wider economy.

I don't see a big change, to early to predict how strong business will be and things panned out more or less as expected. Most of the pictures in the press of lack of social distancing seem to be from soho, hardly surprising!

There is a famous S.W.London pub near me that has been shut until today - I believe one of the busiest pubs in London - very quiet. The pub opposite (part of a small pub Plc.) that has been doing 'takeaways' over the last few weeks is still doing a huge volume in takeaways.

Could 'takeaways' be the new norm?
