Exactly EI.

When on holiday last week half the pubs were shut and most of the others shut very early unsurprisingly spoons was full on both floors.

Took dad to a Ember inn pub this lunchtime when we got their despite saying open on website it was shut.

Sometimes they dont help themselves, although there are tough times ahead for the industry spoons will be one of the winners imo.

Don't forget the share price has doubled since the crash so understandable it may pull back a little here, the easy money has been made am afraid could see it going back to £8 where there is decent support.

Gozzie2 I agree with all your points, all of the policies on covid have been ambiguous from the start, I keep an open mind, I don't like wearing the masks in general but I just do it on public transport and shops because I can't be bothered arguing with people, i stay in Scotland so not sure how pubs will be tomorrow when opened, the beer garden looked a very bad atmosphere last week when I passed one.

Would expect one of the reasons why JDW share price has held up reasonably well
is an assumption reduced competition will ultimately help drive future revenue and returns.
Would agree with that longer term rational, once they navigate the next 6 months or so.

Yes longterm wetherspoons will survive where many wont so in the longterm it might work out better for them .Less pubs means more share for them .I just think they will go down shorterm .I listened to a Korean expert on the virus in march .He has got everything spot on and said its 95% certain the northern hemisphere will get a second wave in autumn winter .

Pubs are not finished, yes unfortunately many will not reopen, agree with that.

Mentioned a couple of weeks ago that JWD would probably be available under £9 again.

Think what you are seeing atm is a sell the news event with a realisation
it may be some time before customer volumes and profitability return to pre COVID levels? (2022/23 would be my guess atm).

Even if you take social distancing completely out of the equation, we are still
looking at a sharp recession with less people spending as much.

The place where it would spread the most is the pubs and restaurants where people talk and drink alcohol .Doesnt make sense to have masks in shops and not pubs .I did mention online stocks are the way to go.The high street is finished .Almost certain to be closed down again in winter when the second wave arrives .

Pubs,Coffee shops, High St are dead now


Face masks will become compulsory in all stores from next week.

Imagine going out to a restaurant & sitting down to enjoy your meal with that thing on your face - are restauraneurs and publicans going to issue modified masks for their punters, or will they have to keep pulling the bloomin things up & down. There can't be one rule for shops / shoppers & another for other establishments... I will now only shop if I have to. RIP to town and city centres.

Boris has just found another way to ruin the economy even further

Face masks will become compulsory in all stores from next week.

Its only going to stop them going out to high street shops and turn to online shopping which still affect the high street stores and force even more closures..

Agree with Johnwise compulsory wearing of masks will not help retail at all it will put more people off visiting another reason to buy online,god help our High Streets.

Not long ago they were saying wearing masks was a waste of time!

Totally agree EI I always visit at quieter times.

Youngs, as with Fullers, you usually pay for the setting.
Quality of food is also a factor, but that does not come cheap.

JDW provide choice for the sector which is a big positive.
Some of their pubs are excellent, particularly if you avoid the busier nights.
Not compulsory to visit a spoons so dont understand why some moan on about them.
