27/9/2017 17:00 | Just a thought - Wandisco, IBM, Amazon & Microsoft should consider recruiting some of the hi tech experts from this board. | redface

27/9/2017 16:44 | I still can't hear you, and as reposting old stuff appears to be ok exploratory 26 Sep '17 - 10:08 - 1936 of 1941 1 0 Interesting RNS - suggests a business case for a WAND solution over sever back up and associated servicing costs for Enterprises. Anyone know of an equally effective solution for this problem ? To answer your query about server back-up on an enterprise system, I assume you would be talking about a company with a traditional mix of sales order entry, production management, CAD/CAM, CRM, inventory management, accounts, billing, payroll, email etc. Wandisco is aimed at a different market using very large databases for example census information, medical records etc. This data is predominantly read only for the purpose of statistical analysis and so the rate of change requiring replication is smaller than the data in a typical enterprise system. As mentioned earlier the rate of change of data cannot exceed the network bandwidth to other cluster members or the consistency cannot be guaranteed. | melton john

27/9/2017 15:09 | Well as I said before, your "techie" appears misinformed. I took the trouble to follow the link you posted, and that's what it says. Research, do your research. | melton john
27/9/2017 14:55 | Reposting info from genuine techies -I spoke to a techie re spanner and fusion and this is what he said and then emailed -So Spanner is a distributed OLTP database built by Google as an alternative to existing OLTP databases such as postgres and mysql and relies on proprietary infrastructure. Its only unique capability is its ability to support database transactions, and thereby its market is extremely limited. Fusion, on the other hand, is a general purpose replication platform that can replicate data between Cloud and on-premise storage systems of any kind. With its plugin architecture, Fusion is applicable to almost all Cloud workloads. In answer to your second question Fusion does not rely on, or need local networks or fibre end-to-end in order to operate correctly. In fact, their architecture eschews the use of clocks and works without regard to latency between nodes. It looks to have been deployed in all kinds of WAN links, including satellite based links with limited bandwidth and extremely high latencies. The fact they guarantee consistency even over completely unreliable networks says it all. | tickboo |
