They are having a crack at getting some awareness and marketing going.

not sure if that link will work. graph seemed to be headed towards a slip. I think we'll bounce around here maybe as low as 6 until we get some of the H2 updates we hope will come through as they execute their plans. All to play for for Wandisco IMO.

Cheers tickboo, good to know they don't rely on local networks, must be magic then as the title of the thread suggests. Getting a bit smoke and mirrors, not cloud computing but fog computing. High price high risk isn't worth it, I'll wait for more clarity.

Yep, that was the 148,000 I assume. As you say, they still hold nearly 14% so a shed load. The presentation impressed me yesterday and by the sound of if other OEM deal talks are underway, hopefully with Alibaba but David would not mention names (understandably). They don't see spanner as competition as such and google are still reselling their products. Also, cabling isn't an issue either, I didn't get the technical aspects but they're not reliant on local networks (anyone else there can explain?). They expect some of these contracts such as the $4m financial institution to generate more revenue once their quota has been used which applies to other clients. David also seemed to say contracts would be announced in a quarterly update but I'm not sure about this as they've announced major contracts in isolation before. I should have mentioned that. All in all I'm very confident and any news wins will go straight to the bottom line which is good. David said Nasdaq could be an option in the future as he believes they'll be valued higher but this will come on the AiM once they hit profitability. They also want to be more transparent in terms of bookings/revenue.So very upbeat and although looking at the hard, cold facts of revenue versus valuation this seems overpriced looking at the bigger picture in terms of their unique offering and the size and likely growth of the market place there seems to be a lot more to come.

Good luck to you too.

I will inform IBM to ensure that they don't pitch any sales to companies located in rural areas or where the infrastructure is found wanting. Good to know.

Peace to you too. Not referring in the main to rural locations but anywhere away from city centre locations would affect take up of cloud computing. A place like Canary Wharf with huge HSBC and Barclays offices could be if not already hooked up to cloud computing but there are many large concerns with suburban or rural locations, some anonymous large sheds doing lights out computing which are low profile for security reasons others because directors like working in a parkland sort of environment. In my working life I visited a lot of them. These places would be the ones where an enormous increase in network traffic to the cloud would be akin to an enormous increase in road traffic. In China they have built new roads and cities which allegedly are empty but in the free world demand drives supply and supply will steadily rise, perhaps even exponentially but not an explosion imho and I don't think the share price will revisit £15 any time soon, there are 50% more shares in issue now compared to nearly 4 years ago. Good luck.

MJ, I think you must inform IBM forthwith. This seems to be far too important for them not to know about! Have you also informed WAND? Your revelation has made me reconsider my stance here and am seriously thinking about selling based on you considerable experience with all things FTTP.

Melton John I am not sure why connectivity in the countryside of UK is important - as you know most of the economic activity happens in cities and Wandisco's main markets are currently America and hopefully will be China. You clearly know a lot about the specific infrastructure in the uk but I am trying to understand why internet speeds in the countryside is relevant to the investment case for wandisco when all its clients will be global corporations based in large cities (at least to begin with). Post meant in peace - am interested.

Who asked you, I was talking to toyin and anyone else who wants a bit of education and I'm sure IBM realise the importance of a good internet service before they start giving guarantees.

MJ, I am sure IBM have that as their number one concern.

But back to WAND...........

Thanks for the link toyin, for the record I worked in IT for 50 yrs and one of my employers was the company which along with Intel and Xerox invented Ethernet, the most common network infrastructure.
I am aware of what IQE are doing, namely upping the maximum speed available on optical fibre links. Note the word available. Until the fibre infrastructure is upgraded to provide higher network speeds then it will be a limiting factor on adoption of Fusion etc. This means fibre end to end, not fibre part way and cable for the last mile or so (fibre to the cabinet or FTTC) but end to end (fibre to the premises FTTP) google those terms to research.
A decent home fibre to the cabinet in your street gives a download speed of 100M bits/sec but in the reverse direction (upload) 5-10M bits/sec. Marketed for typical home users predominantly downloading and streaming. If you are a home office user writing/designing creating data you struggle to upload your work to clients etc.
Think of a business with a group of people doing the same or an internet sales business or a bank and the network traffic will be much more than a domestic connection could handle and predominantly in the opposite direction. If you are receiving data at 100Mb then the site sending it has to send at 100Mb. A business user requires a symmetric service rather than asymmetric i.e. 100Mb/5Mb (the A in ADSL).
So to handle all the data whizzing around our company on the internal 10Gb network what we need to look for is the availability of a symmetric FTTP high speed service and looking around it appears we are like drivers of fast cars waiting for motorways to be built. Various companies are doing it, but it requires either getting it done privately or waiting for BT to get around to your area. BT are talking of a 10 Gigabit symmetric leased line to satisfy future demand but anyone can see you shouldn't hold your breath unless you are in a location close to an exchange. Perhaps I should invest in city center property. An interesting link -

I hope they move onto Nasdaq as I reckon they'll be more of an appreciation of Wand's potential. Yes some is priced in here given the meagre turnover but I've no doubt the US investors and analysts will be all over this. Hopefully we get some news in the coming weeks on contracts etc.

Thanks for the edison note - so it looks like we could tread water for a bit while we wait to see what second half brings in terms of partnerships and contracts. Plenty of room for large upside medium term if they continue to execute in the same way as H1 and start the Nasdaq process. Happy holder but not expecting v.short term fireworks.

important comments are (ive taken out the main part of the article)

WANdisco, the Aim-listed big data technology company that straddles Yorkshire and Silicon Valley, is preparing to list its shares in the US, after it reported its first profit and substantially reduced its cash burn during the first half of the year.

A US listing could come as early as 2018, depending on the company’s performance in the second half.

About 70 per cent of WANdisco’s shares are held by US-based funds and investors.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq has made a play for UK technology companies to list, with the likelihood of getting better analyst coverage and access to investors more accustomed to the dynamics of high-growth companies.

cheer up melton john. I do have a clue, its why I've been in since 5 quid.

My point is all the data created, whether it's from wearable medical devices worn by a diabetic which send glucose / insulin levels to a doctor or computer who can manage ideal levels remotely or someone logging on to their bank account using their phone and facial recognition etc to make a payment - all these things are going to start creating massive amounts of data from individuals which companies are going to have to manage and send to the cloud - while not being able to afford any outage periods.

your point seems to be on the specifics of the technology ecosystem and whether it can work in the countryside - I will try and find an opportunity to ask that question tomorrow.
