02/3/2024 19:18 | If, and yes it's a big if, a takeover for Vodafone did come in for it to be accepted 150p would need to be offered, given the NAV is closer to 200p and Kantar consistently name Vodafone as Britain's biggest brand. 100% premium shows how ridiculously undervalued UK stocks are. Look what happened to Hotel Chocolat, a tiddler... | justiceforthemany
02/3/2024 14:48 | I note a large article on the CEO in today's FT, which seems mainly, if not entirely positive. And certainly about her determination to turn things around. | brucie5

02/3/2024 13:50 | kiwi: Absolutely spot on analysis (7882)...which is why 'vultures' could well be circling. In reality I'd be surprised if they weren't ...particularly when one factors in that telecoms are beginning to come out of the heavy infrastructure investment period, intertest rates likely to fall (with a June estimate of 2 per cent rate of inflation0 and shorts significantly reduced both sides of Without M and A | wendsworth

02/3/2024 08:52 | rare???...one person heard???...sources close to company???...uncooke There's speculation that there may be interest for a full takeover of Vodafone (VOD), according to traders, who cited a Betaville "rare" alert on Thursday. Vodafone (VOD) ticked up 0.8% on Friday after a Betaville item about takeover speculation and one person following the matter heard that Goldman Sachs has been hired for a potential acquirer. | diku
02/3/2024 02:02 | and....more investment houses spot value... A series of potential deals across Europe's fragmented telecoms industry has put the battered sector in the spotlight, as consolidation could help boost profit margins. European telecoms stocks (.SXKP) are at fresh record lows relative to the market after years of investor neglect in markets dominated by megacaps that offer fatter returns. Since early 2000, Europe's telecoms have seen their market cap collapse six-fold to $270 billion. "We strongly believe that M&A can draw attention to a completely forgotten equity sector," said Fabio Caldato, portfolio manager at investment company AcomeA SGR. "We're building the position. There may be cross-border M&A that finally reduces competition and raises margins for telecom operators," he added. Vodafone VOD this week announced exclusive talks to sell its Italian arm to Swisscom SCMN for 8 billion euros ($8.7 billion), adding to other potential transactions in the making. Mediobanca Securities analyst Fabio Pavan said the deal "was a step in the right direction" as it would create a group with a more than 30% share in both fixed and mobile markets in Italy, home to the European Union's third largest population. "The telecom sector continues to show a strong need for remedies; M&A is the only effective one, opening a virtuous cycle of price-ups," Pavan also said. The sector has been plagued by many players fighting for market share, while facing costly network upgrades to meet growing demand for data. Analysts say industry consolidation could end price wars, allow companies to cut admin costs, and get synergies by sharing technology and infrastructure. | kiwi2007
02/3/2024 01:59 | I don't think there's anything happening especially, just that the market is spotting value; VOD is a stock many investors are watching right now. VOD is currently sporting a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy), as well as a Value grade of A. The stock is trading with P/E ratio of 10.20 right now. For comparison, its industry sports an average P/E of 10.46. Over the last 12 months, VOD's Forward P/E has been as high as 12.20 and as low as 9.02, with a median of 10.03. Another notable valuation metric for VOD is its P/B ratio of 0.35. The P/B ratio pits a stock's market value against its book value, which is defined as total assets minus total liabilities. This company's current P/B looks solid when compared to its industry's average P/B of 1.03. Over the past year, VOD's P/B has been as high as 0.57 and as low as 0.33, with a median of 0.38. Value investors will likely look at more than just these metrics, but the above data helps show that Vodafone Group is likely undervalued currently. And when considering the strength of its earnings outlook, VOD sticks out at as one of the market's strongest value stocks. | kiwi2007
01/3/2024 22:25 | There is something going on, that's why I've been checking the trades today and yesterday. If someone wanted to spread takeover rumours, you would pick another well-known company with fewer shares, which would push up the price. Vodafone has 27 billion shares. You would have a job push up the price by much. IMHO. Could be wrong, but I think there is something building | veryniceperson
01/3/2024 19:32 | Risk reward suggests that a share price around 70p is a bargain for VOD as at long last the telecoms should start climbing this wall of worry as the yield is great, if maintained by BT and VOD. The icing on the cake is that they are way undervalued so it does present an opportunity to tuck these away at these silly prices for the next 6 months or so. PS - I bought today after watching for many months as I firmly believe the trend is upwards now! | gurunostradamus
