'SOUTH WESTERN EUROPE'

08 Jan , 2019

"The manufacturing sector is one of the main engines of Europe, where it has more than two million companies and almost 30 million people dedicated to it directly. However, the new needs of the market and society, the fast technological progress and the environmental and sustainability requirements are driving to a profound change in the sector. To contribute to make it more competitive, sustainable and productive, the EIT Manufacturing initiative is born, with the support of the European Commission, more than 50 companies and technology centers from all over the continent will collaborate to make Europe a world reference for innovation in manufacturing and encourage companies to adopt new technologies more quickly and efficiently.

This initiative will have a specific innovation network in Euskadi, to promote and finance advanced manufacturing projects, training and revitalization of productive activity in south-western Europe. The Basque entities Aernnova, Mondragon Corporation, IK4 Research Alliance, ITP Aero and Tecnalia will be in charge of its start-up and it is foreseen that it will start in 2019. This network will have a budget of more than €15 MM per year to give support to companies both in the creation and development of new products, and in the application of existing technologies, and it is expected that more than half of the industrial companies in Euskadi take advantage of this.

Objectives of the alliance

The challenges posed by the Euskadi network are: favour the digitalization of the industry and contribute to a more flexible and flexible production, environmentally and socially sustainable. In this way, it will contribute to generate quality jobs, train students and attract talented people, and create “innovation ecosystems” in which companies, technology centers, universities and investors interact.

To do this, during the first 7 years of operation of EIT Manufacturing, the Basque network will launch new mechanisms to promote relationships between agents to accelerate the arrival of more than 100 new innovative products to the market, the creation of more than 200 new companies and the training of more than 10,000 people.

EIT Manufacturing is the result of the joint work of more than 50 entities for more than 7 years, in which the differential contribution of the Basque consortium has been decisive for the success of the initiative. The network has the impulse and support of the EIT, European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an entity that encourages the creation of innovation networks, which include training, R & D & I activities and the creation of new businesses. The EIT to date has already generated other communities of this type for sectors such as energy, the environment, digital, health, raw materials, food and urban mobility.

'AIRCRAFT INTERIORS GROUP TAKES FLIGHT TO VISIT TOULOUSE'

Posted on December 17, 2018 by Omar Kadhim

"Last month we brought the Aircraft Interiors Group (AIG), a Special Interest Group (SIG) of ADS, to the heart of French Aerospace; Toulouse. With the support and facilitation of ADS Toulouse – an ADS subsidiary – a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the ATR production line kicked off the visit. Members were invited to see the ATR 42 and 72 aircraft in assembly, including their latest interior being fitted.

Members also had the opportunity to hear from senior guest speakers including representatives from Airbus, ATR, Aerospace Valley and Aerospace Ad’Occitanie, who shared inside knowledge of supply chain processes and opportunities.

A presentation from Airbus on their cabin procurement strategy, business models and market trends proved particularly insightful. It also reinforced the standards and certificates needed to be considered as an Airbus supplier. Members of the group who did not get to participate in this trip can view this presentation in the group’s area of the website.

All in all over 40 companies networked and discussed business opportunities over the 24 hours, making this a great first outing for the group.

NEXT STOP AIRCRAFT INTERIORS EXPO

The group will next come together to showcase the combined UK offering in this market, at the Aircraft Interiors Expo next April. Spanning more than 315 sqm, the ADS organised UK Pavilion will be hosted in partnership with UK government, promising great exposure for those participating.

ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT INTERIORS GROUP

The AIG provides a focal point for ADS Members who have interests in the aircraft interiors sector. With a priority focus on business development and promotion of the UK interiors capability, the group aims to identify market trends, raise awareness, inform, influence, engage and collaborate across all relevant stakeholders including governmental departments, trade bodies/clusters (foreign and domestic), design houses, manufacturers and research institutions."

Late winner by Standard Liege just now did my football spreadbets account some good ;-)
(Profits get used for topping up VRS shares). I tend to win about 80% of such bets, but it takes a tedious amount of screen monitoring to get the entrance and exit timings right during live betting on live matches.

Woody - in compiling a list of people working with/for Versarien and without wishing to be pedantic to the inclusion of consultants, you could add very big names from Cambridge Graphene:

among them being Mark Shepherd who was present at the first Cambridge Investor event. I was impressed by the modesty of this man who brought his industrial experience across from 2D-Tech. He, having founded and run Xaar, could be regarded as THE go-to person for inkjet know-how in UK.

Oddly there isn't an equivalent URL link to people at 2D-Tech.

Consortium Uses Graphene in Leading Edge Development
Tuesday, January 15, 2019

The Graphene Flagship consortium, in partnership with Aernnova, Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria and Airbus, recently used composites enhanced with graphene in the development of a leading edge for an Airbus A350 horizontal tail plane.

Graphene for Leading Edge

The leading edge of a wing deals with extreme temperatures due to compressive heating of the air ahead of the wing. Graphene Flagship noted that it is imperative for the leading edge to have good mechanical properties, and graphene increases the mechanical properties of the part, allowing for a thinner build and a decrease in weight.

Graphene Flagship
The Graphene Flagship consortium, in partnership with Aernnova, Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria and Airbus, recently used composites enhanced with graphene in the development of a leading edge for an Airbus A350 horizontal tail plane.

“We worked together with Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria and Airbus as part of the Graphene Flagship’s Production Work Package and our collaboration greatly benefitted from the discussions during the Work Package meetings,” said Ana Reguero, from Aernnova.

“It was Airbus that brought us (as the manufacturer of the current leading edge) together with Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria on the leading edge project.”

Reguero also added that Aernnova supplied the resin to Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria. The latter added graphene directly to the resin and applied milling, which creates graphene particles, “an important step to get good graphene infiltration within the resin, avoiding unwanted impurities, such as solvents, which can alter the viscosity of the resin.” Maintaining the viscosity of the resin helps ensure the best outcome during the resin transfer molding of the leading edge.

With the addition of graphene, the resin also showed increased mechanical and thermal properties, as well as a decrease in fracture speed. The tail edge will also be thinner, leading to a reduction in weight.

"Associations: Grupo Antolin works with 36 universities and research organizations and belongs to 32 international associations directly connected to R&D activities."

Aernnova's HQ is just outside Madrid...

And we obviously have connections with Airbus... (Iain Gray)
