Graphene R&D held back by fake ‘black powders’

A wonder material that consists simply of sheets of carbon atoms – graphene - is making waves across the scientific community, but research is being hampered by low-quality, fake material.

Haydale aren't doing much better today by the looks of it! Mind you trading volumes appear to have fallen off a cliff for us as well since the holiday period ended and everyone back at work! At least the share price has been fairly steady for the past couple of weeks - hopefully Miton have stopped dumping.

Ellissj - Let's hope so. I will be very pleased to see the shaping of the business to allow the model to be understood mainly by analysts/market.
At present we have many fingers in many pies without the possibility of quantifying how much pie each finger would catch. Any positive regarding the progress of various collaborations will be very helpful indeed.

See what happens when you have funds in that want out.

Check out my fave share (not) AGM. Insight investment (hmmm apt name) who held near 11%, did a Tr1 on the 10th taking them just below 10%.

Since then the share price without any obvious or volume selling has collapsed from 36p to 25p.

To me that indicates the fund involved has done a deal and off-loaded a lump to the MMs.

Early days but it seems Insight may well have decide to exit AGM. As it stands there just isn't any volume to soak it up. They have been under that risk for some time. Funds have held for plenty of time and it was distorted by that dodgy IP group holding 25% or so more.

Katie at Herald now has over 10% of them having been involved in the fund arise at 36p while sitting on a file showing her the leis AGM out out. ???

I'm so glad we are near away from that type of situation that others face.

How would you guys feel now with someone holding 15 mill VRS shares and happy to collapse the share price to get rid.

senden, many thanks for your good wishes, dad is stable.

Sandbag, no offence taken, in fact I had thought to redo the list to include other important points such as the ones you make but it seems so long as it is....

More good publicity for graphene in general:

Indeed fuji, that's a given. But equally, the 'hard numbers' have to be right and are worth waiting for. Weighed up in the context of current trading/investment conditions. Aecom appear to be first out of the blocks. We shall see. Aimo Best ellis.

This link tweeted by iain gray. 7 new chairs in emegenging tech reqd. Royal Academy of Engineering. Looks like neill should apply ? If he's got the time ? Best ellis

'Chair in Emerging Technologies'

"Applications for this scheme are now open. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 12 March at 4pm.

The Academy’s Chair in Emerging Technologies scheme aims to identify global research visionaries and provide them with long term support to lead on developing emerging technology areas with high potential to deliver economic and social benefit to the UK.

We will now be opening this prestigious call every year and hope to appoint 7 new Chairs in Emerging Technologies in the 2018/19 round of applications. By covering employment costs for the Chair, the award enables sustained focus on advancing the technology to application in a strategic manner over a period of up to 10 years.

The Academy is not prescriptive in defining the focus of Chairs, except that they require a powerful case to be made for the value of an extended long-term vision through to application, and hence for funding that provides sustained support for a world-leading researcher, ensuring continuity of their focus across other grants and contracts and removing any expectation of duties that do not support the technology programme.

It is often the nature of an emerging technology that its potential is not widely appreciated until championed by a visionary individual who can set out clearly the opportunities it offers. Thus, this call is deliberately broad and open, and we encourage applications that make a case for disruptive innovation in well-established areas or overlooked fields as well as new emerging technologies.

Applications are welcome from across a broad range of engineering and technology areas including research topics currently considered basic science, but which now require engineering ways of thinking to drive them towards application and in more-established technology areas where the applicant has identified a high-impact novel approach.

Similarly, we are not prescriptive about the Technology Readiness Level or similar assessment of innovation readiness expected of applications. However, we do require a clear ten-year research vision underpinning the proposal that will make a significant difference to how the emerging technology is taken forward and the consequential economic and social benefit to the UK.

The Academy is committed to diversity, and welcomes applications from women and other groups who are currently underrepresented across engineeringThe Academy welcomes applications from high-calibre researchers currently based outside the UK, in line with the Government’s Rutherford Fund to attract global talent to the UK"
