Chumbo,
No, Ian Cowie is banging on about Brexit. How a Labour government would be worse than a No Deal Brexit.
No mention of the forthcoming unicorn.

I see geic open day this wednesday. Some more info from their 'about us' page. Glalth. Best ellis

Centre (GEIC):-

"The University's other world-class, multi-million pound centre will see industry-led development in graphene applications in partnership with academics.

Set to open in 2018, the £60m Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) will be an international research and technology facility.

Together, the NGI and GEIC will provide an unrivalled critical mass of graphene expertise. The two facilities will reinforce Manchester's position as a globally leading knowledge-base in graphene research and commercialisation."

"Masdar is pleased to be partnering with The University of Manchester, which has world-leading academic and research credentials. With potential applications for graphene across major industries, we are confident that together we can pioneer the use of this ground-breaking material."

Dr Ahmad Belhoul / Chief Executive Officer, Masdar.

GEIC Funding:-

£15m - Higher Education Funding Council for England's UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF).
£30m - Masdar, the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company owned by Mubadala.
£5m - Innovate UK.
£5m - European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
£5m - Local Growth Fund."

GEIC Advisory Panel:-

"The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre Industry Advisory Panel has been set up to guide the early stage planning for The University of Manchester's second graphene facility."

"A broad range of industrial partners are supporting the design and implementation of the GEIC and its business model."

Of the GEIC and its business model:-

"I was very impressed by the scale and vision of what Manchester is trying to achieve. The key for companies like BAE Systems, who will be long-term users of graphene, is the capability to move quickly, and the GEIC will allow the University to do that."

"Steve Harris / Head Of University Collaboration, BAE Systems"

Hi all,
I may be ex. film/TV - however I am totally social media illiterate!

O/T Example: bought some Philips Hue lighting for my lounge curtains, to subsequently discover that my iPhone 4 was almost as ancient as me, and couldn't hack it (I was given the phone by a relative who felt sorry for my lack of tec' - although I do have an iMac and Mac Book pro).

So couple of weeks ago bought an iPhone X, and for the next week tried to get my lighting and my video front door bell to work - both unsuccessfully.

Anyway my bro's son and kids came over for a sleep-over last week-end, and got the lighting set up with right brightness and colour, and left after showing me me how to turn it on.

Unfortunately it wasn't until this morning a week later that I finally - accidentally - discovered where and how to turn it off. For the last week I've been looking like a brothel with mauve lights on all night.

And my bloody phone keeps on trying to talk to me!

p.s. saw 'Mortal Machines' in IMAX last night - it's totally mind blowing and makes Star Wars look like Mary Poppins!

Best wishes - Spike

I won't post any more on it , just highlighting some of the factors that make the link with AECOM bloody huge and that there will be plenty of jobs in 3D printing tech in the future.

Agreed, a vrs youtube a great idea shavers. Someone starting it now would have first mover advantage, and see its interest grow exponentially no doubt, just like the company ! :) A good opportunity, for someone with media type background/training. Tbh, not for me tho. I'm committed to another project, and have a meeting on wednesday with a partner, which is v exciting. Almost as much as 2D materials ! Gla. Best ellis.

For VRS it's already being done: Note how Innovate UK are 'selling' VRS:

I keep thinking, everyone is so focused on the international expansion in China, could we not see a curve ball from a country with deep pockets, less cultural barriers and big aspirations.

It had been implied on many occasions that discussions are taking place in other countries.

Following on from the Tesla comparison, are you familiar with the fanbase Youtube channels which have sprung up around Apple and Tesla?

Here’s Tesla Time News (now re-branded IN Depth): two guys wittering on about anything to do with Tesla and EVs in general. Sounds a lot like this BB at times, investigating the company, finding out what Elon is up to, confounding the Tesla-knockers etc:

Perhaps we should start one of these channels. Anyone up for it?
Ellis? SG? Lucky? Owenga? Mike? Spike? Woody?

I am interested in the change in construction using 3D printing Shavian, is it an answer to the housing shortage and divide between those who can afford and those who can't?

Some will say that it won't catch on and they won't last but that was said about timber frame houses and they now dominate and are the norm.

Seems to me that 3D printing is the future and AECOM are going to be amongst the first movers.

Not bad linking up with AECOM and China Railway and I think that it may be the downfall of Apple with the possibility of integrated printed circuits also becoming part of printed 3D houses.

No longer science fiction, will have a big impact over the next 20 years and the carbon footprint will/should be much reduced.

NOT O/T!

Watch this case study comparing the rise of Tesla with the early days of Apple:

Sounds familiar?

I now see some astonishing similarities between the early stages of both Apple and Tesla with where we are with VRS, and between the strategic visions of Jobs, Musk and yes, Ricketts:
* all started their visions from scratch
* all have had ‘first mover advantage’ in their respective sectors
* all have built/are building in-house teams and systems ahead of any competitors
* all have created a loyal fan base around a charismatic CEO
* all have sought to create an integrated ecosystem among their products

It’s just that we are at a much earlier state of our story, but in the past week we have seen how the pieces of the VRS jigsaw are coming together.

Sit back and enjoy the ride folks!
