'Dubai 3D Printing Strategy' to focus on construction, medical products and consumer products; aims to make emirate hub
As a first step towards executing Dubai's 3D printing strategy, Dubai Holding has launched the International Centre for 3D Printing at Dubai Industrial City.

The centre will host more than 700 local and international companies to make Dubai a major hub of 3D printing technology.

Last week, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the "Dubai 3D Printing Strategy" that will focus on three major sectors: construction, medical products and consumer products.

The strategy is particularly relevant to the construction sector considering that the strategy aims to 3D print 25 per cent of buildings in Dubai by 2030. This will create a huge demand in the market and offer large investment opportunities for companies and investors locally, regionally and globally.

MAKING DUBAI THE WORLDS 3D PRINTING HUB
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the ‘Dubai 3D Printing Strategy’, a unique global initiative that aims to exploit technology for the service of humanity and promote the status of the UAE and Dubai as a leading hub of 3D printing technology by the year 2030.

The Dubai 3D printing Strategy will make Dubai the worlds 3D printing hub. The strategy adopts an emerging technology that will help cut cost in many sectors, especially the medical and construction sector in Dubai. The technology will restructure economies and labour markets, and redefine productivity.

Our Goals
In 2025, based on Dubai Municipality’s regulations, every new building in Dubai will be 25% 3D printed; this move will start from 2019, starting at 2% with a gradual increase to the strategic goal.

Global 3D Printing Market
The global market for 3D printing is expected to reach US$120 billion by 2020 and about US$300 billion by 2025, driven by research and product development activities and the increasing need for more creativity in the design process. 3D printing technology will ease the production process in various sectors, offering the prospects for major leaps in the world of industry.

Reports indicate that 3D printing technology will cut construction costs by between 50% and 70%, and cut labour costs by 50% to 80%. In addition, the technology will help reduce waste produced in construction operations by up to 60%, which will reflect positively on the economic returns of the sector and contribute to sustainable development.

Modern construction techniques
include the use of non-traditional
machinery such as robotics;
3D printers are simply a subset
of robots. 3D printing has the
potential to make the most
profound impact on the industry
as it will influence the ways
assets are designed, procured,
constructed (manufactured)
and demolished (dismantled).
One of the key obstacles to
the widespread adoption of
3D printing has been the lack
of codes and standards which
subsequently make local
authority approvals more difficult.
However, mandates such as the
Dubai 3D Printing strategy will
encourage development of local
codes and standards. AECOM
has a number of agreements
with leaders in the 3D printing
space including Winsun of China
and Scaled of the UK. Both
companies are experienced in
delivering 3D-printed products
using a variety of materials, from
the traditional cementitious to
the more exotic carbon fiber
reinforced polymers. AECOM
employees have already been
working with these partners,
an example being a design
boot camp held on methods
to utilize the technology in
innovative ways.

The use of 3D printing in
construction has numerous
potential benefits. Reducing
the need for activities such
as installing formwork, tying
reinforcements and striking
formwork decreases the
number of operatives required
on site and thereby reduces
the number of hazards to which
they are exposed. 3D printing
allows designers to truly free
their creativity and not be
constrained by the practicalities
of construction elements.

Don't really know if it is supposed to be on the net, but as I said before.... so much information.

We need new, synthetic and CO2-neutral fuels and other more radical measures to curb CO2 emissions in the sector....”

Good Evening Baz,

I asked on this board after interim's if analyst meeting was scheduled but
i missed a lot of posts so don't know if I got a reply.

Do we usually find out what was said and what analysts thought at these meetings?

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the pub meeting - it was very interesting.

So I wait Monday as usual with some excitement. On the macro side how the Fri USA
market blip will ripple round the world, the Brexit 'applecart', France riots..
and of course will we have another RNS ??

EV's..it's all about the battery ! And economies of scale per this article. They say next gen race is on; solid state. So Zapngo? Is there room for 2D graphene too ? Aimo. Best ellis

".....Tesla has collaborated with Panasonic to produce the world’s highest energy density EV battery packs since 2009, when the Japanese company signed an agreement to supply lithium-ion 18650 battery cells to Tesla. In June 2010, Panasonic invested about $30 million in Tesla. In 2014, Tesla began construction on its Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, Nevada, with cooperation with Panasonic and other strategic partners. When Panasonic became the exclusive supplier of battery cells for Tesla’s Model S, Model X, and Model 3 electric vehicles, their partnership was seen as a triumph for Panasonic over competitors such as Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) in China and LG in korea..."

"...Cost reduction is the key for Tesla to make its Model 3 affordable for a large number of people and generate profit. That’s why Gigafactory 1 is so important for Tesla — it moderates the cost of Model 3 battery packs with economies of scale. The strategic partnership with Panasonic has been a key to Tesla’s dominance in the EV field...."

"....Electrive reports that, with Japan losing its ground as the world’s largest battery maker to relative newcomers such as CATL or BYD from China, the race is on for the next big jump in battery technology. Panasonic and Toyota, among others, are betting that solid-state batteries are the future as global companies attempt to look around the corner, beyond current lithium-ion technology. They are joined in this belief by 23 players in Japan that have formed a consortium led by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, or NEDO. NEDO previously engaged in solid-state battery research primarily with materials makers...."

"...In particular, Zap&Go are at the forefront of developing ultra fast charge carbon-ion cells that can replace slow charging lithium ion batteries in a wide variety of applications from cordless and mobile devices, to infrastructure and transport.  We anticipate that the addition of our graphene to their already very innovative products will bring significant enhancements.  The market potential for their technology is enormous..."
