BTW would you employ a so called management consultant like Tim Kempster to advise you how to run your business when he hardly had the vision to look beyond the end of his nose?!

St James's Place are a very well oiled marketing and client relationship machine but very expensive. The performance of their funds is average at best.

The vast majority of the population need financial advice and should be encouraged to pay for it, but investors should look at the costs and the performance of their investments too. Smooth Mr Smith visiting you at home every six months to reassure you that all is well with your portfolio needs to be backed up with performance and cost comparisons too!

Low fees aren't the answer, it's all about value and paying a higher fee for a good fund manager is fine for top performance.

As I understand it st james only invest in their own funds so although the charges for having an account appear modest the fund charges is where they skin you. Can't see advantage of using them myself

Lovat - yes my hubbie's SIPP is with ST James'Place, I have tried to persuade him to let me have it but he says the amount I already have in VRS will no doubt make us very rich anyway so....
IN fairness to STJ, they have not done badly, giving him an average of 12% net interest over the last 8 years...I'm not sure about the charge for holding cash, he is going to ask the question... I have persuaded him to ask them if he could have that in VRS stock instead...
