A Mac advert

I got sick of various computers going wrong including new one so swithed everything to Mac.

Part of the sales pitch was the clarity is a different class and will last for many years instead of 10 mins.

The clarity stood out but I didn't realise how much until I just went onto my old computer (I say old but it's new) to check a document.

Wow it was like looking at an old snowy TV in comparison I hated it.

So if you look at the Mac price tag and walk it's that price for a reason.

Completely converted and will never go back.

Putting the battery into context. A conventional Li battery has a power density of 400 to 500 W/L. The Prieto battery has 14,000 W/L.

Just a bit more on Prieto to show why I mention it.

In March someone highlighted the potential Prieto breakthrough for wearable tech.

Don't ask me ask the CEO if they have ever sent copper foam to Prieto.

I suspect you'll get the Mclaren answer.

I'll be watching Prieto more closely now and they won an award for it too.

If we keep mentioning the orders the nomad that blocks such news may well have to give in and release news or look like a mug. Let the market decide if it's relevant not the dirty dealing nomads.

VRS have so many customers it's easy to chat about things in pubs. I literally stumbled across a possible VRS 'connection' unannounced while in a pub in recent months.

Been there done that before and forced news on other shares.

This isn't hype by the way just for mention as the name seems to be getting more press in recent months.

Triggered because of Qinetiq. I searched their site for graphene an came up with one hit in a battery pdf but only a line saying they were looking at graphene.

Clearly they are more involved than that as they are at the Hipernano event talking on stage.

Also triggered because VRS 2D tech are on stage talking about graphene and energy storage/batteries.

Now for the complete flip.

Copper foam confession. I know it's VRS copper foam as I suggested it to the Uni in the US and they already had it.

A little start up called Prieto out of Colorado Uni have been working on a lithium solid state battery with copper foam as the core for some time. Intel and black and decker have backed them. Now the foam I can see on their site is VRS copper foam as far as I'm concerned. In fact the copper oxide coated version appeared around the same time VRS introduced it.

At the investor show some just wanted to talk batteries and I suggested they read up about WMG and the VRS collaboration.

However I believe the copper foam Prieto have been using is Versariencu. Obviously they would only use a few units for the experiments but if they get it right then it could go very well.

I assume they would go with VRS copper foam as the battery gain is all about available surface area and the VRS copper foam is a surface area breakthrough in that industry.

Just saying as I talk little about copper foam but have noted the Prieto name popping up a bit more in the last month.

A left field event or could be nothing at all.

There is a video on this page

It has been getting a mention in the media among potential new battery tech in the last month or so.

EG

The future of batteries is 3D. Prieto is the first company to crack this with its battery that uses a copper foam substrate.

This means these batteries will not only be safer, thanks to no flammable electrolyte, but they will also offer longer life, faster charging, five times higher density, be cheaper to make and be smaller than current offerings.

Prieto aims to place its batteries into small items first, like wearables. But it says the batteries can be upscaled so we could see them in phones and maybe even cars in the future.

So I didn't want anyone saying Hmmmmm you didn't mention that.

Just search prieto and click images. There is only one company I know that does copper foam like that.

Anley the nomad won't allow small deals news but with small deals added up the return per gram I much higher.

EG

I think they have had new business in both Carbide and a type of graphene but nowt from the nomad.

I say think I'm just careful with wording as it's either sensitive or it isn't but nomads who block such news suddenly think it's sensitive if we mention it.

Better off without manipulating nomads imo, they do little to stop the fraud AIM company anyway.

Can anyone give me an example where a nomad has said hey hang on this is a fraud.

For all the selling, I note over the last two days a regular number of purchases of 25,000 blocks going through, always at the upper end of the quoted spread. Suggests an accumulator albeit on a small scale.

To move this share higher VRS needs to announce some positive news such as orders, however small.

And true to form the Swiss are sellers........they need to be watched.

News is sometimes the life blood of AIM stocks.

RNS re a few from the flip in name from Henderson and a few sells since that.

The supply there looks like 600k so my guess is what kept it steady.

Those LSE bids I talked about yesterday are appearing now on level 2 on the bid again.

Edit

It was an auction when they came on, now off in the normal market. I suspect it will appear again in any other auction or the end of day.

It all depends if it's a big buyer and how many they want each day and at what price. They didn't come over the top in that auction.

hmmmm

It was narking me that Shoc didn't want to seem to let shares go late yesterday and early toady then suddenly came on the offer lower with plenty apparently. They had been there most of the morning but now off the offer and on the bid.

So it seems whatever they managed to pick up has gone.

I still have a few Hardide (got rid of a lot having chatted to Neill and him telling me why he left HDD). From memory they did a market update not long ago indicating they were expecting to be slightly below expectations, hence the change there.
Best wishes - Mike

Also of interest note Victrex have made a 'small' downstream acquisition in the PEEK/PAEK area.

I think in the long term VRS either becomes Victrex or replaces Victrex. Will be interesting to see developments here.

From today's Hardide trading update RNS

"As expected, sales to the Oil & Gas sector have more than doubled compared to the same period in 2016 and overall trading is comfortably ahead of both the first half and the second half of the last financial year. As a result, the Board expects that the trading performance for the full financial year to be in line with market expectations."

Find it quite surprising that 'sales more than doubled' and 'overall trading comfortably ahead' but they still only expect results to be 'in line'

Go figure. I hope the positive oil and gas sector translates for VRS Total Carbide division.
