I was having a conversation, yesterday, on the subject of management.
The conclusion that we agreed on was the importance of key personnel change and in particular the CEO.
The smart decision is to take some, or probably all, of the investment off the table in relatively short order. My personal concern is one of continuity. Any newcomer finds it difficult not to tinker with the tried and tested model. It may be that he/she improves on what is already in place, but change for the sake of change is not necessarily good. Big ego's dictate that you put your own stamp on the situation and sometimes before you have your feet under the table. That person may turn out to be inferior to his/her predecessor.
If the transition is a success, you can always jump back in.

WEIR nearly back to 1908p:

"The Weir Group PLC (the "Company") hereby announces that it received notification on 2 December 2016 from Keith Cochrane, PDMR, that on the same date he sold 50,000 shares in the Company at a price of £19.08 per share."

FT:

Thanks modform, much appreciated. I'll take a look at nasdaq then in the first instance.

I have sharelockholmes for screening which only has UK stocks but perhaps I'll give sharepad a try for a month to see what it throws up with US stocks using similar filters.

You should keep both apad - after all both fit the criteria and it will be interesting to see.

and many thanks for this thread and especially your posts apad - most informative and in several cases very beneficial. And hope the moles haven't returned!

Seasonal good wishes to all

Homebrew, I personally don't use any filtering but rely on news break or sector rotation. Nasdag is a rich source of information which puts LSE to shame. However I have access to some colleagues who use sharescope for filtering USA stocks. There are some news that one needs to take notice. For instance when AMD announced that it was pulling out of high end PC graphics card, it gave NVDA a complete monopoly, I recall I did mention it here, the share price was then $30, it is now $110, with a mcap of $60B, most of the gain is just by raising the PER.The trigger for AMD was the new chip announcement which seemed to perform better than Intel, and it has risen by almost 90% since. There are risk that new chips may not perform as well as it had been hoped, but nothing without risk.Another area that am investigating is the fragmented USA gas and oil pipelines. The pipelines and logistics are controlled by almost 10 companies. I recall that Warren Buffett bought 200m worth of shares in kinder Morgan recently. I like MMP PAA, the latter has a lot of debt with more possible upside but it has reduced dividend to pay down debt. These companies are very cash rich and have been paying good dividend even during the worst oil bear market. Not a recommendation but a sector that I feel may open opportunities if oil and gas recovery continues.

Thanks for sorting that APAD.
I do have winners as well, (thankfully more than losers)
This may encourage me to hold on rather than constantly reinvent the pertfolio, and miss out on some bigger moves in the process.

As a regular follower, I would like to select the shares in my portfolio that are all underwater at present. Not a very proud boast, but a little cheap publicity like this can't do them any harm. The selection is:

AAZ
JOG
RQIH
SOU
W7L

Thanks guys for your banter which is authentic, and fun. Seasons greetings.

I liked some of the products a lot, fozzie.
I would have been more impressed if they were all as specialised as the Ostomy products.
Check out their list of leaders on the website - that sort of mix puts me off, but I do miss successful entrepreneurs.

I have taken a decent sized position in CTEC (for me) at 5% of my portfolio. I think and hope it will be a slow burner but is in some very interesting areas and has potential. Very much under the radar despite being one of the largest ipo's ever on the London market.

Just had a look at recently floated Convatec (CTEC). More 'leadership' than you can shake a stick at, from a right peculiar set of backgrounds.

I'm so easily put off!

The logic is not that of winning, Dave. This is an analysis process.
I am interested in how my "grown to terrifying valuation" top shares compare with the smaller holdings I am currently increasing.
Still, I guess I should only have one entry that counts, so I'll go for the tiddlers.

SPRP, CTEC, UAI, IGG & UKOG for me please Apad.

I have held SPRP and UAI for years, added UKOG in the summer, and recently bought IGG and CTEC. A little bit of a mixed bag there but i am very hopeful for a good 2017 from them.

I haven't got where I am today without grasping the wrong end of the stick, b.
Interesting selection.
I've got quite a few SOU, based on the roulette wheel principle, and have sort of pencilled them in as heading for 40p or £4.00. Couldn't bear the SOU board - a mix of people who know an enormous amount about drilling for oil (but I don't see how it helps) and complete herd of dingbats.

BOO
Trust the management job - hard to judge whether it is a good deal, buying a brand and a customer base. At least it's from the receivers.
I hope they don't get NG's founder with the package.
It's a great example of how you can sell a lot of stuff and go bust. KOOV following, I reckon.

ps
homebrewruss: are your competition entries from shares you own or your watchlist? I've got a vague memory of you saying you would be changing them...
