Just a bit of mitigation on my 3 shares showing -32% this year Apad. I

I am -42% on Craw, should have bailed at 90p but genuinely believed the story, there is no debt and the shop roll out is fully funded so in theory at least we should still some uplift, annoyd to think i passed up almost 10k in profit at one time this year.

-14% on SPRP, still holding and have bought some more recently, rude not to, currency movements will suit and decent management who will restore fortunes after a largely unforseen blip.

+492% on XPP, yes thats right +492%. My original investment has been repaid several times as well with a stonking dividend. Holding now for income and the possibility of a bid.

I will have a big think over the next week on 5 for 2017 but joined you in IGG today and also bought CTEC which i think has potential.

"A sticking point in talks with BoA had been MBNA’s potential liabilities over the payment protection insurance (PPI) mis-selling scandal. However, Lloyds, the bank with the biggest PPI bill of more than £17bn, has negotiated a £240m cap on future compensation claims to limit its exposure."

Good price, madmix.

Competition entries changeable up to new year deadline - should be tomorrow's Midwinter Day really.

Current favourite for increasing out of income is DOTD - so much for O&G, still consistency is the refuge of the unimaginative.

Hedging your bets. Wise man.

y'oodles are blowing hard to get the Dow over 20,000. Once there it will plummet, for some nebulous non-reason. It always happens.

APAD,

Joined you with a few QTX today at 322p. I have a feeling it may have bottomed - market now bidding 320p in 5k. Overhang of cheap stock seems to be running out.

IMHO, FWIW, etc. :-)

Will do a competition entry in due course, but waiting to see where the prices are nearer to 1st January!

APAD, thank you for your invitation.

I don't usually go in for competitions considering them speculative distractions though I did participate in the '3 top holdings' as something real.

I have a portfolio of 20 companies, some foreign and most held for over 10 years.

As competition material for 2017 I consider all as being eligible but really cannot predict to which or when their days will come but for the record please note ....

... TSTL, SRT, OCN, CAM and MGNS.

Aside: I do hold BVXP as a short term flutter but consider their days to be numbered and that their tests will be superseded by superior technology {body scanning} within the next 5-10 years

Well done.
Personally, I think that 2017 will be a very difficult year. There are so many imponderables that will affect markets and sectors. Some of my picks are currently trading higher than would have wanted. My Lloy had a mini rally several days ago. so my start point is higher than I would like.
I am mainly 'safe' with the odd curved ball that, if it comes good, could propel my selections forward by a tidy sum.
Anyway, in about a year or so, we will eventually see the wisdom (or not) of our endeavours.

Lurching, or sliding gracefully to Christmas - depending on which way you look at it.

OK Red fair enough :)

although its not as easy as it sounds is it. After all we do have a year of known unknowns approaching IE brexit.
Is it already priced into the pound IE foreign currency earners, Is it already priced into builders and materials suppliers??

Tough to know what to do especially as I am really not up to date with the markets and have no idea which companies are on the brink (or within the year) of transformational news

Here are my 5 all the same

Bit of a safe selection I think. would be easy to drop in a few super micro cap punts but I think those comps are kind of pointless really. good luck all

Thanks for running the comp APAD

Depends whether you want large "safe" O&G or SOU type "punts" I suppose APAD!

Latter = ENQ, BVLN among others. I would opt for former but WDIK? Former = BP., RDSB, SIA? News from latter today. No debt, pay a small dividend and need to get back from much higher levels they have fallen from.

AEX -Serial disappointer but has 2 near term drillS to (hopefully) add to existing small Gas discovery. Co has harped on about world class assets for years, the time has come.!!

Seem fully funded for the appraisals and an outside chance they could become self sufficient if demand for their existing gas producing well is there.

Management have lots to prove still. Less than 1% of my PF.

I have some divis to spend and don't know what to do.

I think I'm jaded and need some excitement, but my natural cynicism precludes so much.

O&G explorers, but I don't know a thing about them.

Any ideas?

On January 1, 2006, MBNA merged with and into Bank of America. MBNA America Bank, National Association, (MBNA) then became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of America.

Bunker mentality. Tin hat, flak jacket, brown trousers and bicycle clips is the normal dress code at times of stress or trouble on the horizon.
You cannot always rely on the 7th Cavalry to dig you out of a hole.

Interesting mix of shares in the competition (especially when compared with the usual high risk punts in open ended competitions).
We might be able to learn something!
