The pundits are saying that a bid cannot be coming because directors of UU were buying UU shares yesterday. My understanding is that they can do this if no formal approach has been made and there are just market rumours. I still think, therefore, that a bid could be on the way, particularly given the continuing share strength this morning.

I may close some of my UU positions. A bid is always a possibly though and, of course, becomes cheaper if GBP continues to slide.

I agree. Top sliced 20% of my vod portfolio in my Sipp today. I may be wrong, but you can't knock taking a profit. If there is a shakeout, I have the cash to get back in.

They are already beginning to talk down Spain again!

Telegraph reports that vague bid chatter among traders is back for UU. This persistence is beginning to excite the share price!

I will settle for a steady one too.

All utilities are political footballs at present. I get the impression that government wants to run them as semi-public services ie they want shareholders to take the risk, but not to receive the rewards.
Additionally they are being encoraged to take on greater levels of debt to fund infrastructure improvements. That is all well and good but if, in the longer term, profits are squeezed then the ability to grow dividends is reduced. Any downturn in profits will ultimately have a negative effect on dividends and the share price.

As a shareholder, I hope that I am wrong in my assessment.

As no-one else has , this BB title merits a post in 2013. Not sure this will be UU's year , but will settle for a steady one.

Looks a solid enough set of interims to me. Divi up 8 or 9% by the looks of it.
