30/10/2012 12:43 | Darias , you misunderstand my post.I have a large holding of UU that I have held for many yrs.Sometimes I add , sometimes I sell some particularily when there has been a significant rise. If you add up the total shares bought and sold by the directors over the last yr it totals about 500 . I have never sold more than about a third of my holding. I don't think the idea of having a core holding and a trading holding here is unusual. If you never sell , then you look at todays 3% fall as a paper loss, but if you sold some in the last few weeks you see it as an opportunity. But everyone has a different strategy , and sitting and holding UU over the last decade has been a good strategy too. | wad collector
30/10/2012 09:02 | "I have traded about ten times as many UU shares in the last yr as all the Directors combined trades" Why? There has been steady growth in the share price with a decent dividend and yet you take the risk of scalping a few pennies hear or there. UU was one of the first companies that the club bought. We have been down for most of the ten years the club has been going but have added on various occasions. I do not recall that we have ever sold and see the dips as buying opportunities. UU, Accounts for over 8% of our dividend income and nearly 1% of our total income last year. I cannot understand why anyone should trade a share like this. BTW it represents around 6.25% of our holdings. | darias
30/10/2012 08:50 | In the last year , no Director has bought or sold any significant number of shares in this company. I suppose that can be viewed either way , but seems a bit unusual for this size of company. In fact , looking at the totals , I have traded about ten times as many UU shares in the last yr as all the Directors combined trades! Perhaps they are just cautious with their own cash. | wad collector
20/9/2012 08:32 | I realise the concept , but I was wondering the exact wording of the need to issue a denial RNS. I don't think your wording is accurate ; I have seen it somewhere but cannot find it on a quick search, only opinions. | wad collector
19/9/2012 16:14 | wad collector This normally happens when widespread press comment is evident and the share price moves beyond what is reasonable to expect on grounds of Company performance. We have to be close to that point with every paper carrying the rumour just about. Moreover, this is the second time within a month that speculation has been rife. If there is something on the go, they do not have to respond as the talks will be classed as confidential but if there is nothing in the rumours they should say so. | ridicule
19/9/2012 15:55 | Do they have to respond to every bid rumour ?- at what point do they have to "we know no reason.." statement? | wad collector
19/9/2012 14:53 | I agree wad collector, but UU are a FTSE 100 company and, if there was no substance, they should have come out and said so. They have'nt!! | ridicule
19/9/2012 14:24 | Ultimately , there is nothing concrete about these statements.Nothing that cannot be denied later ; "traders" could be a man in a pub. Still, if it hits 780p again this afternoon, I'm gone. | wad collector
18/9/2012 21:27 | "United Utilities lifted by renewed bid talk as FTSE falls for second day Traders hear suggestions of possible overseas bid for water company but investors remain cautious" | rogsim
17/9/2012 09:45 | Apologies wrong board post | edgefund
14/9/2012 15:42 | EdgeFund ; dunno what numbers you are referring to - are they your lottery numbers? | wad collector
14/9/2012 12:47 | My chart throws up a reverse disinclination at the elbow datum signalling a rise to 832.5 via 740. | pierre oreilly
14/9/2012 11:50 | Currently 6.09/6.14 | edgefund
11/9/2012 12:31 | I have been pair trading this against SSE earlier in the year ; before the drift apart in share price - looks like an opportunity to restart may be possible soon. Not sure about you chartists numbers though ; I think it is too strong on fundamentals to drop as low as 640 unless there is a marketwide drop. | wad collector
11/9/2012 09:25 | On my chart its just below 650 and just above 630. | cheshiremoggie
11/9/2012 08:38 | blobby - where do you get your 640 from, I cannot see it on my chart. | ohwhat
10/9/2012 14:46 | Back to 640 would seem likely to me looking at the chart. | blobby
10/9/2012 08:59 | The bid rumour is presumably fizzling out now ; becoming priced on fundamentals (which are rather good of course) again. | wad collector
23/8/2012 09:07 | its coming home! Can you see what it is yet? Charting this one is pretty easy.......back to 700 or there abouts before a movement up | edgefund
22/8/2012 11:01 | Price seems to have plateaued since bid rumour significnatly up on July ; presumably still residual hope is exceeding the scepticism of absence of news. | wad collector
21/8/2012 15:10 | Nope...........whats that 717 hmm think ill let it run | edgefund
15/8/2012 14:57 | EdgeFund Best turn your short into a long ... 733 and rising ! Q | quidzinn
15/8/2012 12:48 | short is doing well at 740, only wish i had seen the light at 800, but it has to go back to 700 before it rises again, without the water pump | edgefund |
