It has withstood the last fortnights market turmoil admirably.Like a submarine in a storm.Only it didn't dive.It floated.Metaphorically.

I added again in todays weakness ; 584 seems a good price to me.Boring share , but reliable.

that was the point , it is the antithesis of why we buy these , unfortunately tongue in cheek can be lost in print .

You might have the wrong Board, HOLTS: holding UU. may be many things, but it is not ""risk-taking"".
Time for your lie-down in a darkened room.

Heres one for us risk takers here , BOI , a very slick campaign run through TMF for rescind of terms to burn bondholders , which at the moment seems to have worked , a near 30% yield to be had at 45.25 , not for the risk averse you might say , but a small punt maybe, mostly trades with accrued again now unless you are buying 500k blocks through interbank market.

I hope so, I had my fracking finger over the buy button at 5.68 the other day and as usual couldn't pull the trigger.

I used to laugh when I was being lectured about the psychology of share trading.

The UU bid rumours have grumbled for years.
Be nice if it had some substance, though suspect todays bounce will be short-lived.

A shot in the arm for the sector

LONDON (ShareCast) - Shares in Northumbrian Water gushed higher after Hong Kong Infrastructure group Cheung Kong (CKI) said it was sizing up an offer for the water and waste management group.

"CKI is in the preliminary stages of assessing a potential cash offer for Northumbrian Water," the company said.

"There can be no certainty that an offer will ultimately be forthcoming."

Cheung Kong invests in energy, transport and water infrastructure in Hong Kong and mainland China and internationally. Its UK investments include Southern Water and Cambridge Water.

Northumbrian Water operates in the northeast of England.

If 560 doesn't hold, 540 looks the next level to try a buy.

5.3% is still pretty good.I just sold some BT and bought in here, ; safer and definitely better yield atm.

we dont even have the benefit of offering a higher yield any more , even at todays price .

Effectively up 10 points at one time today. Annoyingly I have been away from my desk all day.

No , they are highly trained .At taking percentages of other peoples money.

Xd 20p today - it doesn't show up as obviously on the chart as it used to.It also shows part of the farce of GS's pseudo-accuracy- do they mean the price xd or not?

United Utilities eased 4.5p at 595.5p as Goldman Sachs reduced its target price on the stock 688p to 659p, maintaining a neutral rating.

Amazed at the accuracy of the target "659". What a bunch of crooks!

And with the market up 80 points it's down over 1%. So much for Investec.

uu. has fairly large swings up and down without any dramatic news. The yield is good, inflation linked, so best stick with it and top up if price dips further.

It will naturally go down 20p first thing tomorrow, but at this rate it could easily be 30p or even more. I frankly admit I don't get it and have thrown in the towel.

If this is down 8p today when Ftse is up 54 points and it goes ex div tomorrow with a 20p div, 570p is likely on Weds
