21/1/2022 13:04 | Growth company valuations have been falling for a while. From memory, this started in Sept 2021 but the last few weeks have been terrible. There's an argument to be made that THG got repriced drastically from 650 to 200 within a couple/few weeks in Sept/Oct. The problem is since then investors have been pulling money out of tech companies and this is going even lower. Investors have been pulling money full stop. It's a theory which might be completely bogus or explain at least a component of what we are seeing with THG. Another component is MM. The environment in the next few years could be very different from anything we've seen in the last few decades. Both economically and politically. Brexit ain't helping although MM hasn't blamed anything on Brexit...yet. Government taxing more, corporation tax increasing, Brexit, commodity price increases - ultimately THG sells luxury products or at least non-essential items. On the Q4 call, MM claimed cosmetics and supplements are the last items people cut out when disposable incomes fall but that does not make sense. Unless he's putting addictive substances into the nutrition products...At the very least, consumers switch to cheaper items. | ![]() bldm | |
