Bottled water! I recall back in the early 1980s joking with my drinking buddies that paying for a Perrier in a pub would never take off. Look at the bottled water sales now. We have some of the cleanest tap water in the world yet ... eejits everywhere, no wonder the country is a mess ... still run by a party operating for a priviledged few, yet voted for by a majority.

There has to be a dictionary definition of Lunacy in there somewhere.

It's funny that people don't acknowledge that the ultimate goal of capitalism ironically has to be some form of socialism. Let capitalism run rampant and by its nature it should reduce the amount of human resource required for any job to zero (bring on the bots...).

Then but ONLY then you need a fair system for resource distribution... a universal basic income or similar.

I'm a capitalist so one day we can do socialism lol.

When the public stops paying £2 for 6 bags of barely half a potato sprayed with chemicals I'll believe there's a struggle. Or £2 for 2 litres of fizzy flavoured water. Or £3 for mozzarella on bread with a bit of processed ham and pineapple etc etc...

Food and drink prices rise at record pace of 17.1%

The price of food and drink in shops is rising at a record pace, research suggests, putting more pressure on household finances.

Prices in the four weeks to 19 February rose by 17.1% from a year earlier, research firm Kantar said, the highest rate since its records began in 2008.

Kantar said one in four shoppers were now struggling financially.

Konrad, it's a weird one. Although the buybacks are ultimately meant to increase the share price I suppose Citi have a minimal impact strategy.

That's perhaps why I suggest they paused buybacks when the share price was regularly challenging resistance at 251.60. Presumably we've cleared that without buyback support, but they may have been active today once it was obvious resistance breached.

Obvs they want to buyback as low as possible but the 240-250 range now seems over.

All i see in most places is the 250g jars so I make a special trip to Asda just for the 500g jars

I'm a marmite fan but they recently boinked the price from £4.50 to £5.85 for 500g. Not long ago it was about £3.50.

Tasty, yes but it is ultimately brewers waste dressed up as food.

Citi probably took a time out on the buybacks whilst the share price decided it's direction. They seemed to not want to be the ones causing it to break through resistance, so ceased pretty much at 2.50+.

Now it's through without their help presumably they just accept the new trading range and restart...

If the product is the same then all branding is for is to create market inefficiencies to allow them to gouge.

Tuna in a tin is pretty much tuna in a tin. All the same. But obvs other branded products do have a quality differential.

We had a debate (albeit a bit disjointed!) in the pub as to whether the brands with their margins, are supporting better paid jobs and its good that people buy brands, even though they are often no better than own labels, because it prevents a race to the bottom. Although that assumes brands do pay their people more - which is where the debate went off the rails a bit.
