This thread has become like those pointless TV interviews with joe public for his random, unreasoned opinion, so I'll take my leave and leave you with my latest thought that I think fits in nicely: inflation has probably been caused by 12 years of Tory austerity and the government running down the very fabric of society, that has been built up over the decades by ordinary hard working people and Gordon Brown was really a rampant Tory, which is why he cut capital gains tax from 40% to 10% for businesses that held assets for more than 2 years, resulting in the rush to buy and hold empty property in London and will the strikers who bang on about the lack of investment in their areas of work, come out and demonstrate in their spare time about that, if they get the pay rise they want ?

Helen,

I know there are but a monthly Electric/Gas bill of only £67 is quite astounding. And having some left over to finance a holiday!

Hence my question.

My gas & leccy is £350-400 a month and we are frugal - hardly have heating on as it hasnt been cold enough. Bigger house though - 4 bed.

Hardly ever use the Oven for example.

Paperchase: Tesco buys stationery brand but not its shops..


Tesco has bought the brand and intellectual property of High Street stationery chain Paperchase, hours after it fell into administration.

But the grocer has not acquired the chain's 106 shops in the UK and Ireland, leaving the future of 820 staff in doubt.

Tesco will now sell the stationer's goods in its stores across the UK.

Nothing to do with remaining competeitive Johnwise, just pure corporate greed. Over time simply get younger, inexperienced employees to 'try to' manage for significantly less money than their predecessors.

It will of course all inevitably unravel at some point and consumers will go elsewhere, then the downward spiral with gather ever greater momentum. Just look at Morrisons and even Asda to a degree.

Rather than stick to what they were good at they feel the need to compete in the race to the bottom (much like the UK governments approach to UK PLC). Choice at Tesco has shrunk considerably over the last few years as they offer far fewer items and brands, and as they throw away the old management capability they wonder why they get issues around supply chain, attendance/ HR issues, low staff morale and poor worker retention. Gaps on the shelves? Nobody on checkouts? Of course, but that is top down penny pinching reducing overtime/ staffing budgets, whilst trying to force consumers to use Scan (steal) As You Shop and self service checkouts.

When you are Number 1 There is only one way to go and that is down, but boy Tesco senior Execs are doing their damnedest to ensure its a fast and furious descent, but they will no doubt exit with pockets bulging full of cash so wgaf?

Tesco axing in-store management roles as shake-up impacts more than 2,000 jobs

Tesco said the shake-up was needed in order for it to “remain competitive”.

You must live very frugally. £67 a month for energy,and money left over for holiday from Govt winter payment.

What's Brexit got to do with anything? Plenty of places around the world where you get a 6 Month Visa just for having a British passport. As to Europe - it's 90 days or so isn't it? If you're holidaying you wont be restricted to one European country either sutrely? Unless you own a European holiday home.

Impressive frugal living though. £67 a month gas&leccy expenses. We dont even get close to that in Summer when we are outside nearly all of the time.

This would explain the lack of holding notifications after huge trading volumes, if the same person, possibly using two accounts has bought and sold a lot of the shares. Dyor.
