Took me three years to get my portfolio into a ISA, I hated those SA104, 106 & 108 forms!

1carus,
" a point that it is based on the 'new' covid business model going forward."

You need to have certainty regarding Covid before there can be a new covid business model.

There is no such certainty with Covid yet. More and more people losing their jobs, more and more towns/cities being placed under lockdown. Just today, new restrictions have been announced in Aberdeen.

Thinking this is done now. Gradual rise from here to a point that it is based on the 'new' covid business model going forward.

If you run your own company or companies &/or you invest it pays to have a good tax adviser, mine costs a lot of money & I have used him for the last 20 years,He is worth every penny I pay him & what he doesn't no isn't worth knowing.

And you are right - this really calls out the advantages of investing within an ISA wrapper, and to a lesser extent SIPP wrapper (given that withdrawals are taxable after the, typically, 25% tax free allowance).

Gbh2 - alight amend: for the basic rate tax payer, dividends above the tax free limit of GBP 2,000 are taxed at 7.5%.Back in the day there was a 10% tax credit, which meant that basic rate tax payers had no further liability. In a bid to increase the tax take from contractors with Ltd Companies who used dividends to avoid employers and employees National Insurance (IR 35), taxation of dividends was completely overhauled, which impacted investors in equities.

You pay 10% tax on dividends if you are a basic rate taxpayer

But not on Dividends paid within an ISA

"Totally oversold imo"

I don't think HBs are oversold, it's early days.. As I was saying come Aug, more and more people will be made redundant. Lockdowns are being reintroduced in many places around the world...

With current uncertainty, I think it will affect HBs, retailers, hospitality, banks..

So far, no extension to Help to Buy...

Dividend income (nor capital growth for that matter) is NOT taxable where the shares are held in an ISA - so £20,000 per adult per annum is a must for investors including bed and breakfasting non isa shares with any spare isa allowance. It is a no brainier but unlikely to be sustained medium term imho

Lol, My tax affairs are fully accounted for & up to date thanks, I dont owe a penny to HMRC's that hasn't been paid,I may have to for the last 2 years but those accounts are still being processed , prior to that I have not had to pay a penny in tax on dividends received as shares not that I have to explain myself to anyone on here.

You gotta pay tax. When hmrc catch up with you, 100% they will, you'll need to pay whats owned plus interest no matter how many years back dated..Anyone who thinks tax ppl won't catch up with them, good luck in that belief ?

Oh dear

It's very simple, dividends are taxable income.

I can see an HMRC investigation on the horizon!

DD, I have an exceptional accountant thanks he knows all the loopholes all legal & above board so you don't need to worry about that, Wording it better my original £20,000 investment is worth £94,241.33 as of 1 hour ago, so perhaps should have said capital & dividend growth to be more accurate

Jugs, it may come as a surprise but tax should be paid on dividends..........."

Who's a naughty boy then?

Looks like Jugears has been caught out, no wonder he's disappeared.

So much for the mastermind (not) investor who hasn't paid tax on his dividends.

What an idiot.

Shhhh........ Don't tell anyone!

120 point swing up on the FTSE 100, and this is plunging the depths - you can see his point.

But I can't help feeling he is doing it at the lows - gap closed (really not sure about the one at 104 - not a proper gap, imho), low volumes today, and the move up is usually always delayed.

Saw someone on the FRES thread who reacted similarly recently, just before a 300-400p swing up from 820p or so after a long period of tedium. And we all know the cliche of when you hear the man in the street talking about the price of gold, it's time to move on - quite possibly not the time to be getting in (I am still in, but to a much lighter degree).

We'll see.
