Well I sold up at 393 making about 30% in total, slightly annoyed that i didn't sell at 415 last week when my gut instinct was in overdrive. Based solely on results I think £4 is about fair value. If he does buy finish line then i think i might get back in giving i believe it will help to offset the low £ but at present he needs to be hitting about 190m profit to justify current market cap, and there is little chance of that this year. Long term still a good bet IMO, GL all.

You called it well to sell above 410p Nortic. Does anyone know the value of the stock he bought in game group?

I will take that as a compliment WM.

MA is a barrowboy isn't he at the end of the day?

He buys cheap and sells high whether it's clothing or stocks. I do not see how anyone can argue with that strategy.

We have yet to see the benefits of all the recent acquisitions feed through to results. All locked in here and set to feed through to upcoming results.

French connection leapt a bit yesterday - up 3.7% and up 30% since Jan 5th (up 25% year to date).

Not going to be a straight line is it but he knows what he is doing.

I am like Mike Ashley - I try to buy stocks when they have a low price and sell them when they have a high one.

He made £50 million doing precisely that with JD sports. He know what he is doing..

Doing things the other way round is surely the way to the poor house

SPD is a growing business that looks cheap to me (thanks mostly to the media hoo-ha) so I continue to hold and to buy more on weakness.

Has anyone in here calculated the total paper loss so far on the various stakes they have bought. I think the loss on Finish Line is alone some 50+ million USD within the last couple of weeks.
If they are not there to buy the whole company it could be a major blow in the coming reporting. If, as I think, they wan't to buy the whole company they are truly blessed as they might get it for somewhere arounfd their average price for the present holding, i.e. around 15$.

Well those that think that man who has made his money of clothing retail does not know when to buy another clothing retailer have voted with their feet and sold today.

Hmm I think I know whose judgement I trust.

Just about to go into the operating theatre. Hope when I come round these things will be better. They were probably due a day like today but still a fan. They'll be back up in no time.

Dividends can go down of course - but the yield Mike is getting on his Debenhams shareholding is currently larger that the net margin he gets from running his own business.

He knows a bargain when he sees one

Maybe we should buy Debenhams ? You get more shares for your money?

Another thought - he is picking up Deb stock at near all time lows and is getting an 8% yield.

DEB is ex growth currently yes - but I have been over the DEB balance sheet and it is not too shabby at all.

Mike Ashley bigged up on Radio 4 just now in a report about his Debenhams holding

"Few would bet against him" when it comes to picking up cheap retail stocks was the verdict.

Another thing - There was a genuinely warm tone to report as if he was the John Mackenroe of Chief execs.. someone who we now consider quite cuddly and forgiven for past misdemeanours .. extraordinary turnaround in tone from the BBC.

Now controls 21% of DEB equity.
