16/8/2017 07:28 | Terminated Just had a glance at their website and they look very similar to JJB. You might want to take a look yourself and draw your own conclusions. | nortic 007
15/8/2017 22:51 | Does a tone know much about finish line? I mean is it similar to JJB sport, is it a value retailer or general outdoor wear? | terminated
15/8/2017 21:07 | FINL down 6% at the close. | nortic 007
15/8/2017 15:59 | MA will probably buy more Finish Line down here at 12.78. | nortic 007
15/8/2017 15:51 | US sports retailers are all pants today. | nortic 007
15/8/2017 11:11 | You can have my 25/- @500 . I'm feeling generous today. | nortic 007
15/8/2017 09:04 | If 425 goes there is no resistance to north of 550 | undervaluedassets
14/8/2017 17:10 | UVA MA is good at reselling and buying assets but a lot less good when it comes to buying and investing in businesses. 2BN is a big valuation with a lot of downside if the profits don't roll in. | ltcm1
14/8/2017 13:12 | Moving on to trading in SPD has anyone just seen that lump go through. | nortic 007
14/8/2017 12:46 | Could Ashley not bring GAME into the existing SPD stores? | lestat102
14/8/2017 12:37 | As I say MA is all about Plunder and he is a retailer. He is not an idiot. Made his money reselling goods and assets bought at fire sale prices. Simple. He is also a rogue and a maverick which is why SPD presents the opp that it does Unless anyone on here can say and prove they know more about how to value retail businesses than he (and he will have teams of people doing Due diligence before he starts spending his cash) I would think he is doing a perfectly rational thing growing his business by buying up more and more of the highstreet at rock bottom prices. | undervaluedassets
14/8/2017 11:43 | But it is trading at 24p because the concept is non viable and there is a lot of lease exposure. GAME is a black hole into which cash is falling into. A classic value trap. But seeing as you are called undervaluedassets I guess you will see the opportunity here :). What is your view on Debenhams??? MA underwater on this one??? I can't help but feel Debenhams is a BHS in waiting and it might not have long now. | ltcm1
14/8/2017 11:35 | He should become a MM. | nortic 007
14/8/2017 11:23 | As I said at last reporting Game had 42p of cash per share. Seeing as it is trading at 24p per share that as a punts go - If indeed this is only a punt (which I doubt) - would seem to be a pretty sound one. | undervaluedassets
14/8/2017 11:16 | Perhaps Mike is a genius but even a guy as smart as Guy Hands came a cropper with HMV. I wonder what the plan is for GAME? Perhaps he wants to shut it down and pick off the leases he likes? Neil Woodfood appears to hold a chunk. That would be an interesting meeting!!! | ltcm1
14/8/2017 10:52 | I've reduced my 400k position down to 120k so that might just indicate I'm slightly cautious BUT I do believe in MA and would like to think SPD will be a lot higher but as I've learnt over the years you must always ask the question....WHAT IF!!! | nortic 007
14/8/2017 10:44 | When SPD went up to 9 pounds the exchange rate was favourable, he had great margins and rates plus staff costs were lower. Now the story is that SPD has been surpassed by JD, the pound is low and rates and staff costs are increasing. So the MA 'solution' appears to be a bunch of investments in other businesses, which may or may not come good. I think what we can all agree on is it boils down to how much you believe in Mike Ashley and his abilities in buying undervalued companies. UVA believes MA is hugely well qualified. I have doubts based on Newcastle, Tesco and Debenhams. The situation seems very different to five years ago. You have to ask yourself why he doesn't invest much money into Sports Direct and how he let JD sweep past into first position. Perhaps he was too busy on a power drinking session. Or spending too much time sizing up distressed retailers. | ltcm1
14/8/2017 10:33 | As I said, option money sir. Which is no bad thing. If it goes wrong we lose nothing. I'm SPD biggest fan and have been for a year now but that's they way he swings . | nortic 007
14/8/2017 10:29 | ?? with exception of GAME (which is trading at less than the cash it has on it's books - and therefore insanely cheap) they are all clothes or sports related. | undervaluedassets
14/8/2017 08:49 | Itcm1 ... He is hardly punting is he?... he is buying (either in whole or in part) businesses that directly compliment his own.. He is growing the Sports Direct empire organically and through acquisition . As he IS a retail magnate of some long standing I would suggest that he is hugely well qualified to make the right call when buying other retail business. Certainly better qualified than any of us | undervaluedassets
13/8/2017 22:47 | I can't disagree with you in some respects . It's either going to go very right or very wrong regarding all these stakes he's been buying . Wembley won't be the same as The Lane :(Watching the golf at the moment. Should be a good finish. | nortic 007
13/8/2017 22:09 | Still gutted Spurs have left WHL, the best ground to see football in the UK. Spent many an enjoyable afternoon in the Paxton. Nortic MA will only pay a dividend when he moves to Monaco like his mate Philip Green. Until that day comes he will continue to punt the retained profits, for better or worse. Good luck to all longs but just trying to flag up there are risks on the balance sheet side if these forays go sour. | ltcm1
13/8/2017 15:02 | First thing I'd do is deduct a months wages from Shelvey. That's about 2 cases of wine in MA's world. You could be right ignoble on that score line. Can't see Newcastle scoring. | nortic 007
13/8/2017 14:55 | 4 - 1 Spurs ? | ignoble |
