25/7/2023 07:09 | Gas prices are pretty steady and increasing still. Sorry haven't been reading quite so much about gas but problems with Norway supply or Europe or something cropped up in a headline a few weeks ago. More gas used in heatwaves for air con! | little minx

25/7/2023 06:38 | I don't subscribe but this part of an interesting articleThe shutdown of the US Freeport LNG terminal in June 2022 had an impact on flows in the second half of last year, with an estimated LNG production loss of 6 million tons. According to shipping data compiled by the EOA, US LNG exports totaled 78.4 million tons in 2022, just shy of Qatar's 80.1 million tons, and Australia's 79.3 million tons (Figure 1). However, since the start of 2023, US LNG exports have been on an upward trend following the restart of the Freeport LNG facility in February and after several delays. The US is the world's largest liquefaction capacity holder, with Freeport LNG, the second largest facility in the country, roughly representing one-sixth of the total US LNG capacity of 91.25 million tons per annum (mtpa). The EOA predicted earlier this year that the US would be the world's top LNG exporter in 2023, and we expect the country to remain the leading exporter for many years, surpassing Qatar, and Australia... | little minx

09/7/2023 12:25 | At the start the well is full of oil and the gas is in solution. As the well depletes the pressure drops and gas comes out of solution. Hence wells trend towards increasing gas. Hi Serratia, I'm not quite sure how this answers Little Minx's observation? The Permian basin is a huge hydrocarbon province, well, 3 linked provinces, with multiple fields, and multiple stacked reservoirs, including gas and oil targets. If you substitute "reservoir" for "well" in your post, then you describe a unsaturated oilfield accurately (ignoring fields with strong aquifer drive like PTAL's Bretana). Initially such a reservoir is oil bearing, with gas in solution. As pressure drops as oil is produced, the oil reaches saturation pressure (typically around a well, where the pressure drop is lowest), and gas starts to come out of solution. The permeability of the rock to gas is higher than to oil so gas will flow preferentially. Ideally though, this doesn't happen ;-) With horizontal wells, the drawdown (how much you "suck" to get the well to flow commercially) is much lower than for vertical wells, so this effect of localised gas production doesn't happen to answer near the same degree. Also, in conventional fields, you can inject water or gas to maintain reservoir pressure | spangle93
