It's become the sort of share I used to invest in in the late 1990's when everyone was piling into 'dotcom' - Low PER/High Dividend yield. Downside is relatively limited, yield makes it painless to hold and the opportunities for capital gain via improved management performance or takeover are possible.

...Have to wait a while for the dividend but increased to a total of 15p this year.

Agreed SMDS does have more lengthy periods between declaration and payment of divis than most companies. But as an income investor and long term holder of the share, this delay doesn't matter because you receive two payments each year, whatever the dates, so you are in exactly the same position as a share which has a much shorter period between declartion and payment.

It might matter only to a new investor who has to wait for the first divi to arrive but after the first year or so, it becomes irrelevant.

Pretty good results today imo so I continue to hold for income. But, the 22 divi of 15.0p is still below the 19 figure of 16.2p, though a nice improvement on the 21 12.9p and a whole lot better than the 20 figure of 0.0p.

Excellent set of results today. PBT looks to be a few percent ahead & the Chairman sounds pretty confident about future prospects. Happy to be Holding a few.

Have to wait a while for the dividend but increased to a total of 15p this year.

Well (subject to the terms, of course) I wouldn't object to an all-share deal. The problem here is not one of fundamentals, but of management. If Mondi's management could extract better performance from the business, then I'd be happy to remain a shareholder in an enlarged company. What with the growth of online purchasing, home deliveries, recycling and anti-plastic packaging, these guys should really be in the sweet spot at the moment and yet they seem to see nothing but problems and 'headwinds'. Give someone else a go!

The worst case scenario but very likely is that they merge with Mondi and Mondi pays us in discounted stock instead of cash premium.

Given that Mondi aleady submitted a takeover bid in the past for Ds, I can DS shareholders revolting if they pay us in discounted Mondi stock

A possible takeover target, it had a brief flirt in the limelight a few months ago. I hope to ride this one back over 400p again, meantime collecting the dividends.

I must admit this is a very disappointing stock
I check regularly hoping for something but despite all the macro themes being positive it still doesn't manage to break out

Time for a management change I think

300p and a ~5% forward yield. DS Smith looking cheap. Sold a while ago around 430p and bought in again 299p. Onward and upwards.

They need to merge or delist.... poor returns for investors here and present leadership have been there too long too

I wish it would. It's hard to understand how they can't capitalise on the greatest opportunity of market circumstances when everyone wants something delivered in a box and the 'green' agenda means that box has to be recycled/recyclable. They should be in the sweet spot.

DS Smith Plc issued a Q3 trading statement a couple of weeks ago. The business is seeing continued momentum, trading is in-line with management expectations, the company is seeing good progress in profitability. Management expect mid single-digit percentage like-for-like volume growth for the year to 30 April 2022. Increased input costs are being fully offset by packaging price progression and volume growth, leverage is being reduced. Management sound positive, valuation is attractive with forward PE ratio under 10, the business is solid. The share price has been in a correction since September so lacks some positive momentum. All else looks pretty supportive of the investment case and the medium term outlook for the industry looks upbeat. BUY....

This is in the slide back to 250's me thinks debt needs sorting before interest rates start rapidly rising over this year to try to control inflation

Ordered a boxed toy from Amazon last week and it turned up in a brown paper bag, I think delivered in an Amazon van but they had disappeared by the time I got to the door.

Now on green grounds I approve but a paper bag offers minimal protection to the contents and presumably marks a major shift in what packaging Amazon UK buy in. Anyone know who supplies boxes to Amazon?

Disappointed in my prediction, perhaps this extract from this morning's RNS will put us back on track - "Since DS Smith issued its half year results on 9 December 2021, Group performance has remained in line with our expectations of delivering a significant improvement in profitability during the second half of this year and towards our medium-term targets."
