Incidentally, nice to see price starting to move up off the recent low.

Decent yield of around 5.18% at this level with scope for capital growth.

I know sustainability has become an almost overused term, but I was seriously impressed with the recent Business Wire article highlighting D.S.Smith's efforts at replacing plastic with recyclable fibre-based alternatives. Worth a read:

Couldn't resist a few of these at 273p today. Fall here seems very overdone to me. 15p divi = 5.49% at my buy price. Decent enuf. I will top up if they keep falling (notwithstanding any news to explain the fall).

I wouldn't hold any share just on bid speculation, boards here are full of such talk for many shares but almost all of it never happens.

I'm an income investor and hold SMDS probably for the long term for its divis, as part of a widely diversified port. If a bid occurs then fine, I may profit from it but not a reason to buy or continue holding imo.

not seeing that pughman. I am a weak holder on this and bought speculatively at 2.97. i agree with sun1950, these shd be much higher given the news flow. very much considering selling at a loss with these...

There was a lot of takeover speculation here 18 months ago. The balance sheet looks far better now, and the business is generally in good shape. With the cable rate making DS Smith an even more enticing prospect for either a trade buyer or private equity, I'd expect bid activity.

#4021 It's possible this was what's known as a 'Bed & ISA', selling from a main (liable for tax) account and moving them to an ISA. And buying back double the amount he just sold, so it was a net purchase of around £30k worth - nice to see, particularly when it's the FD.
