04/4/2013 12:55 | Thanks Peny for that info. I have always used stops on my spread betting, but a lot of folk on the BB's reckon that I am just giving the spread betting company a heads up as to where they need to spike to, to relieve me of my cash:) When I first started SB 2years ago, I used very tight stops, and was very reluctant to leave a bet open overnight, and very quickly lost a grand or so. So I stopped doing it, and now just buy shares - Elliott Waves indeed - now where does it start!! It's always great to watch your trades, so please don't stop. | wattene
04/4/2013 12:35 | Over 75% is well above average - well done that monkey - and you of course! | babywolf
04/4/2013 12:26 | Bw - Just checked through last month's account (March). Did 39 trades. Got 31 winners, 8 losers. Don't know what the % strike rate is, but not unhappy with the figures which must be about average. | penycae
04/4/2013 11:35 | Very interesting detail on your covetted monkey Penycae. Wish I had one! I am very glad that your past experience hasn't stopped you posting your trades here - they are more helpful than you can know and don't worry about folk losing their 'hard earned' - the choice is ultimately theirs. If this isnt too simplistic a question, what % of trades has monkey been wrong on? I appreciate he (is monkey a 'he' or a 'she'??) might have you exit trades too early or maybe a little too late etc but overall, could you put a figure on it? | babywolf
04/4/2013 11:24 | Morning Watte - great track that, especially late at night when you're on the twilight shift. I keep an eye on L2 for shares, but I don't use it for Forex or index trades. I bought some very expensive predictive software a few years ago from the good ole US of A. I could see where they were trying to go with it, but it didn't do what it said on the tin. I've got a good friend from another life who writes 'puta programmes for a well paid living, and I took it to him. We spent a few days tweaking it, and adding on other stuff that I liked to use, and this led to the creation of monkeysoft, which really does work for me. It's still predictive, but obviously not for news driven stuff, although even events like 9/11 have a bearing, because they create market points which are then taken into account for the future. I've never understood Elliot Waves, but I suspect that somewhere in monkeysoft they play a part, as do a few EMA's. My screen gives me loads of squiggles which translate into the numbers which I sometimes post. The most important element for me, is that I have to enter the trade, with stops which are then cast in stone at the beginning. I can trail them to my advantage, but not move them back without exiting the trade. Meant to defeat ego. I try to maintain a sense of proportion, as I took a lot of flack a couple of years ago from a few folk who thought I just gave "tardis" trades to seek attention. People who actually read the stuff I post know that I publish trades real time, and am happy to report the results. I post for fun, and sometimes just to chat, but what I would hate is for folk to lose their hard earned by listening to someone who talks to a monkey. | penycae
04/4/2013 10:29 | Thanks WatteNe, much needed. Woah heavy stuff - Deep Purple | babywolf
04/4/2013 10:03 | Peny - Do you use L2 data to help monkey? Always like gadgets and things and had considered it in the past, but rejected due to cost. BW - Good luck with the DOW today.........hope it trades well for you. | wattene
04/4/2013 09:14 | Yes, those pesky mugging futures bandits - LOL Thanks Penycae. I hear you. I know I will never reach the level of experience and technical expertise that the three of you (am counting monkey) have so I appreciate your input hugely. Yesterday was interesting as well as extremely frustrating. I had to drive to a meeting and the DOW did drop past some key levels but I couldnt watch, wait and take action ie add to my shorts to capitalise. I am nervous today because I know how Bernanke and Draghi can have a dramatic effect on the share price and I dont have enough margin for wild swings upwards. | babywolf
04/4/2013 09:03 | Morning all. Bw - at the moment they're playing out the usual mind games. DOW has re-taken 14600 inspired by the FTSE, inspired by the end of the tax year. All the technical indicators point toward a drop, but against that you have to balance the effect of QE, and any positive data that might come from the States. Never get wedded to the dark side, just trade each day as it comes. Having said that, the type of move that might come if the markets turn south, will be a big one, but not necessarily over a short time scale. If you intend to take short positions, regard them as "investments", and protect them with realistic stops to counter the swings. Closed DOW and Cable shorts (thanks monkey) and now just hold a smallish FTSE short (from 6408) as I don't want to get mugged by the futures bandits on the DOW. | penycae
04/4/2013 08:37 | Since the last post, just seen how much data is due out - there's a lot out today plus Messrs. Draghi at 1.30pm and Bernanke at 3.30pm both of whom always cause rather large market movements.. | babywolf
04/4/2013 08:08 | Good morning Penycae Dont know if you saw a previous post but Bracke wont be around today or tomorrow. Am never sure if 'time off for good behaviour' as he puts it means time off from here or from what he does otherwise! You and Bracke were spot on re 'giving it time' (SP) to see where it wanted to go - I was too hasty but the posts on that point back and forth were informative and helpful. One of my questions again - your post yesterday re a considerable drop being likely - does the 300 points over the next day or so still look on track according to monkey? | babywolf
03/4/2013 17:29 | A drop below the day low (14,586) would be concerning but the previous close at 14,579 may support. If 14,579 fails it would be ominous. | bracke
03/4/2013 17:27 | PS Bracke - I am reminded of a post you wrote sometime ago ie the reversal will happen when the last bear left standing turns into a bull... | babywolf
03/4/2013 17:25 | Thanks for the above posts | babywolf
03/4/2013 17:09 | Babywolf I was watching a number of factors including the 2 minute MACD which to me suggested a retrace possibly to 14,600. It was also hesitant at the s/r 14,611. As Penycae posts, need to wait a little longer. | bracke
03/4/2013 17:04 | SHOT!!!!!! | penycae
03/4/2013 17:04 | Sorry but.... | penycae
03/4/2013 17:04 | Need to just sit and wait a little longer. Mind games at the moment. A couple of minutes ago I caught myself looking for a long entry. If the FED steps in this "move" (if finished) will catapult the DOW through 14700. If its the first leg of a correction, it'll go to 14310, and still be above the 200 which will keep everybody happy. | penycae
03/4/2013 16:53 | Bracke - just imagined what you might be observing with the fib lines and I went through all the 1min 2min - upto 10min MACD lines and decided that the share price is going to go back up - would that be your conclusion right this minute? (this was 2 mins ago) at 16.51 | babywolf
03/4/2013 16:50 | I will be out tomorrow and probably Friday also. | bracke
03/4/2013 16:45 | Acknowledged - thank you | babywolf
03/4/2013 16:44 | You'r welcome. | bracke
03/4/2013 16:31 | Ahh - thanks for the clarification re the green lines | babywolf
03/4/2013 16:21 | The Green lines are closes. 14,579 being Thursday. | bracke |
