well, sadly the nasdaq is down another 100 points since 4.35pm and hence a slight drop
in these technology trusts likely tomorrow. cable movement will have a slight effect

Well 5.9% is sure a big drop in one day for SMT. My holding in ATT had a similar drop today, 4.4%, seems quite a lot for an IT. Will be interesting to see what happens over next few days.

Baillie Gifford halves Tesla holding to lock in huge gain.

Will give them loads of cash to invest elsewhere so will be watching for portfolio updates.

I saw an article jezwatson . It said that they sold half of their tesla holding .
Surprisingly it now trades at a discount to NAV based on friday's NAV and will be interesting to see tomorrow;s figure at midday showing NTA at New York close today . Down today partly because of fall in nasdaq index Garry , it has fallen 360 points from level at Uk close on friday , ie about 2.6% .

Hi arja, What tesla sale are you referring to?

What's contributing to today's down day then...??

I guess SMT has got hit more than PTT as it was trading at a premium to NAV and
quite dangerous to hold when nasdaq index comes off . Or maybe tesla sale has contributed

If you want more risk, you could look at MNL. Highly focused tech bets won't appeal to all, but plenty of China exposure. Performance has lagged SMT of late

I had a monthly investment scheme for two grandsons for 5 yrs till 2016. I took some profits for them in November and though the price has climbed since they still have a large sum left in I do want again to top slice in April to hang on to their gains within their CGT allowances.

I totally agree with the helpful comments in here about Tesla. That's one reason I sold some SMT last year. The Bitcoin purchase just added to my nerves that the risks are getting rather excessive.

What I do with their proceeds I haven't decided but BG seem to be focussed on quite a narrow range of investee companies across their trusts, overlapping and so on, so probably want to go elsewhere. Where though, to avoid overlaps?

Yes, I’ve been holding Z for some time and was about to take my profit at $100 when I first read your confident notes, so I’m still there, thank you !
My daughter told me about them when she used them in the US.

Difficult to see whether they have reinvested the Tesla cash - the only holding which definitely seems to have increased at 31/1 is Affirm Holdings (listed as a private shareholding, but appears to be traded). I'm struck by Tencent and Moderna, which have both increased significantly since 31/12 as well as other holdings such as Vir Biotech which tripled in January and Palantir which performed well in Jan. Anyway they seem now to have plenty of firepower. Of course, they have a decent holding in Transferwise likely London IPO and other potential IPOs in Tempus Labs, Indigo Agriculture and Gingko Bioworks.

If it is a bubble, then SMT are in a great position to ride it.

Markets re-open on a tear after President's Day public holiday.

Uranium stocks roaring.

In early Toronto Trading

Cameco (sector leader) +7%
Denison Mines +35%
Energy Fuels + 10%
NexGen + 5%

they have a lot further to run yet.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

Absolutely agree with the scaling back in Tesla stock. Ridiculous valuation now imo!

Was looking to reduce SMT because of the large Tesla holding also, but like 18BT I'm now happier to hold.

Trust the management to invest the funds well!

18BT - I 100% agree. I am so glad they've done this, despite the long term prospects of Tesla. at 12% holding or whatever it was, it's simply too high.
I'm also pleased this gives them some new firepower for other opportunities.

Yes,saw the big decline in the Tesla stake on the BG web-site - it's a bit annoying that they take so long to get the monthly fact sheets out and update the holdings on the web-site earlier, but have learnt that. I'm very glad they have sold into Tesla's strength - Musk's speculation in bitcoin may or may not be successful, but it is speculation. I was going to sell a large slug of SMT but will now reconsider. They seem to have added some new holdings and to increased the holding in Tencent (which is now the top holding), but I need to do a detailed compare.

my question is if i have smt is it worth it to add pct especially as the latter is now at a discount which smt isnt?

Worth noting the difference in charges. SMT 0.3% and tapering, PCT 1% and tapering.

OK a bit irrelevant given recent performance of both but for a long term holder, say 10 years plus, that's going to make a difference.
