Don't hold your breath, adejuk. I've been waiting for a dip to top up for weeks, and most dips have been smaller than the previous couple of days' gain. Overall though, I do believe the markets are due a correction, but when?

Uranium stocks going through the roof.

Maybe the Reddit hordes are on to this commodity.

Cameco - the sector bellwether- is +20% in today's session and at a new 5 year high.
Other sector stocks equally sky-rocketing.

If it's not Reddit, it's Biden's Green policies and or Bank of America as below:-

I am a holder here (175% up) but not an expert - so with that qualification......

SMT would come down in a big correction - same as everything else. Question is will it go back up again to continue above average performance? I believe yes because of the quality of the holdings and the Fund managers' portfolio strategy that created and drives it. Look at it performance on a 5 or 10 year horizon (and do some comparisons with other big funds).

I can't comment on valuations for non-listed companies- guess they will drop, and then they will comeback in line with their sectors. Also SMT in companies that will go to big scale IPOe 'non-listed in SMT does not mean small eg SpaceX

No valid comparison with SUPP (i have a small number of them too). Orders of magnitude in scale of investments eg sinlge investments bigger that whole of SUPP. Important to recognise that SMT looking at businesses wiht a MASSIVE growth potential and IPO. This is now circa £17bn - big stuff built on a large number of successes and a small number of failures (happily they are not perfect).

BG - have a look at their China or Europe or other USA funds if that takes your fancy - aprt from that there are hundreds to choose from. Depends on your portfolio and where you see growth coming fromm over th next 5-10 years.

As i said i am not expert in this so just my views. Article attached about SMT direction of travel - reinforces my reasons or continued holding for long term

Do people have a view of the possible impact on share price of a major market fall, triggered perhaps by perceived tech over-valuation/frothiness? Am unclear how the 20% unquoted element will affect things. Clearly SMT won't be forced to sell anything as a direct consequence of such a fall, being a closed-end vehicle, but that 20% could grow uncomfortably high if the 80% remainder fell by say 15% to 68%. Would Baillie Gifford downvalue the unquoteds by a similar %, which might reduce the perceived problem or do they have to await a meaningful transaction in the unquoteds to justify a lower valuation? Likely that the discount would rise also.

Are there any lessons from the ex-Woodford SUPP that are relevant?

Just getting a bit concerned at my overall BG exposure (including one of my DC occupational pensions, which has 3x my BG exposure than my SMT SIPP holding). From memory, there's much commonality in holdings between the many BG funds/ITs. Eg their MNTN IT (which I don't hold) has quite a bit in common with the 20% unquoted element of SMT.

Thanks!

arja - not certain but i am sure their annual and half year reports will set that out. They are a plc so will be 'true and fair'. Also note that these are not small comapies, some of theam are vlaued at hundreds of millions each. They make some massive profits on listing. Have look at the other active thread on this site it has several examples.

This fund is outstanding. Really smart guys running it, excellent reack record and a portfolio to kill for. Have a look at the portfolio (on the Baillie Gifford website). One of the most attrcative features is their abilty to own unlisted shares and thier skills in knowing which ones to get into. THese guys are connected at the highest levess in west coast USA and are increasing thier focus on tech in China.

One to buy and keep. I have made the mistake previously of trading it and now have COMO - certainty of missing out !
