Because if there are any further shocks, they should be to the upside. Also, the 20% target for annual increased capacity stays in place.

Over 40% reduction in PT is quite unbelievable, for EZJ and RYA.

DJ MARKET TALK: Morgan Stanley Upgrades Ryanair

1312 GMT (Dow Jones) Morgan Stanley upgrades Ryanair (RYAAY) to overweight from equalweight but cuts price target to EUR3.60 from EUR6.35. Cuts easyJet
price target to 440p from 820p, keeps overweight rating and British Airways
target to 245p from 450p, keeps equalweight. "We reduce price targets
across our coverage in the wake of an average 20% cut in EPS for '08 and 40% for '09." But sees opportunities at low cost carriers "owing to easier yield
comparables, market withdrawal of weaker competitors and potential M&A leading to a downsizing of short haul European capacity." Adds long-term assumptions may need to be revised if fuel costs remain higher for longer. Ryanair -6.6% at EUR3.81, easyJet -5.1% at 462, BA -2.9% at 317p. (KAV)

Heres a piece i found from the Guardian 13 Jan 2008 mentioning travels...

-----------------------------------------------------------
So far, there is little sign that tour operators are braced for a slowdown. 'The holiday is not a discretionary spend any more - people will always find the money to book a holiday,' says Martin Cowan, editor of the travel industry website e-tid.com.

David Soskin, of online air-tickets vendor cheapflights.co.uk, is confident that holidaymakers will cut back on spending elsewhere, rather than forgo their annual break. 'There are things that just don't change about the UK: the traffic is dreadful, the weather is dreadful, and staying in the UK is very expensive,' he says. He does admit that holidaymakers are likely to have a keener eye for a bargain this year: 'People will shop around.'

Analysts at consultancy Euromonitor believe weaker consumer spending will only intensify trends such as the rise of internet-based booking, which has already led to a wave of mergers among traditional high street travel agents. 'Low-cost carriers' cheap fares will become even more attractive, while the search for internet deals will intensify,' Euromonitor says. It adds that holidaymakers are likely to take shorter breaks.

Folks.. have a look at the cost of fuel relative to turnover and profit.

Another little thing to watch is the Euro/Dollar and recently the Euro/Pound has become significant.

In the last few days we've been overtaken by events such as the realisation that even if a fare is a tenner you need a few bob in your back pocket to go on a shagfest or a romantic weekend.

Technically we are now playing at thirty dollars and change....printed 3055 today before bouncing to 32 dollars.

OIL ..on the NYMEX down to $96...ish.

Good luck all.

bmw30csl....good evening.

if that question is for me.....re: how do you work that out.

My point is the airline industry/sector is one of the most exposed to high energy prices. With RYA being the leanest in the world.....even more so than Southwest (luv) their cost base with high fuel prices gets totally out of their control.

basically .. their earnings next year could fall off a cliff.

If anyone would like to take a peek at the accounts , which the market has not up until now I'm quite prepared to discuss the matter.

cat100.

yep.. I'm still curious about what rya are up to with their stake in aer lingus. They must have known the resistance they'd meet and in the last few weeks they have sued the EC five times.
I'd rather if they concentrated on running the business as it's beginning to look like they're picking fights they can't win.

You're quite correct but I think you may have to wait until next year for a big down move.

Just wondering..... have you read the accounts.

Reduced consumer spending will mean reduced passenger numbers and not as dramatic growth as in the past

The original thread by this name has disappeared - ADVFN must've pulled the complete thread for some reason (peeved because they got stranded in St. Etienne maybe?). Anyway, here's another attempt.
