11/10/2019 10:50 | I'm no postie but defo 95% yes to strike ...will it happen probably not | zztop
10/10/2019 14:12 | Historically postie's don't go on strike following a yes vote. It's usually enough to make management cave in. However this time will probably be different and a few days strike is in the cards imho. They don't get paid by the union when on strike. | encarter
10/10/2019 11:31 | as i understand EU rules labour would not be allowed to nationalise a privaltely owned company. Unintended consequencies, Jacob Rees Mogg and his ERG paving the way for a socialist dream world. | careful
10/10/2019 11:21 | The trouble with unions when they run these ballots they recommend all members vote on the side on the union in disputes. They will most probably vote for strike action once that happens the odds are high they'll go on strike. The unions actually pay them for days they go on strike from their funds. Once they've crossed the line with the ballot they use that as leverage on the company, the company never backs down any compromise is not enough so the strikes happen. It'll be a case of how many strike days until the dispute is resolved in reality. | creditcrunchies
10/10/2019 08:31 | Labour have alienated many of their voters owing to their brexit blocking games in the House of Monkeys Labour have taken their voters for granted. Big mistake Labour therefore have no chance whatsoever of winning a General Election right now So I wouldn't waste any time worrying about a possible nationalisation of RMG | spob
10/10/2019 07:53 | The really big issue is property rights, the guiding principal behind the American constitution. Nationalisation is compulsory theft of private property. | careful
10/10/2019 07:21 | The great thing is that if a future Labour government do nationalise RMG they won't even need to borrow money to do so. They will just issue BONDS which, according to the Shadow Chancellor, is not borrowing! You just pay bond holders a divi instead of shareholders! So, costs go up, revenues inevitably go down and yes, the good old taxpayer is there to pick up the difference.Meanwhile the economy, pensions industry, housing market etc etc has gone down the toilet.Hello Venezuela! | marky60
09/10/2019 15:59 | The ballot will certainly give the union the result it wants. but is it just a bargaining chip. I doubt that the posties will wish to strike if it mens financial sacrifice. They just want as much job security as possible and good wages and benefits. But it must all be affordable, otherwise this business will perish. the CWU are hoping for a Corbyn victory in the upcoming election and public ownership followed by a land of milk and honey all paid for by the taxpayer and that mysterious money tree. A sound business, we shall just hope that the next few months pass with the results that will bale us out here. | careful

09/10/2019 12:51 | Every worker I spoke to the other night was voting for strike action. | hermanngoring
09/10/2019 12:00 | Glavey, your comment is fair "unusual" and my figure is based on information from some time back when RMG had to begin 'sharing' services. I have been trying to find out just what share of the postage alternative carriers now get and cannot find an answer. What seems to have evolved is that other carriers quote a fee to a bulk mail user (typically a utility company), they then trunk it to a Royal Mail distribution centre and RMG have to do the rest, also now presumably for a negotiated cost. But I hope I have illustrated that the easy and substantial reward is on the trunking side where one vehicle and one person can carry over 250k letters in a single deck trailer, compared to the cascade of something like 300 vehicles and workers needed for the actual last mile delivery. Whistl (Dutch Post Office) did for about a year try their own 'final mile' system, cherry picking the centres of large cities, they gave up because it was losing large amounts of money, and dumped it all back on RMG. I do know from personal experience that it's often third party hauliers trunking the mail for whomever has the contract. Incidentally I stopped casual driving of trucks some 18 months ago, so I confess I'm not up to date with anything recent, but as little had changed in the previous 12 years, I doubt much has changed in the pas 18 months. Inm my view RMG lose a lot of potential easy revenue from being squeezed out by alternative carriers taking lucrative trunking income away. | lefrene
08/10/2019 23:38 | you're right RMG is one of the most shorted stocks at the moment even at this level only days away from the ballot result on Tuesday 15th | creditcrunchies
08/10/2019 22:42 | okay I see the result is next Tuesday someone on here said it was today | spob
08/10/2019 22:35 | ballot result ? | spob
08/10/2019 09:09 | once this ballot result comes out we could see a bit of a plunge sub 190 level you just have to hope to doesn't accelerate | creditcrunchies
08/10/2019 02:59 | Last mile not what I commented on though. I commented on the suggested 59k creaming for a single truck movement as it seems err.., unusual. Suggests the 'stamp' value appraisal might be leading to some odd conclusions. (?) | glavey

03/10/2019 13:54 | Result of the ballot due a week Tuesday so we'll know if they are going on strike which on past ballots it's highly likely, hard to guess just how hard the market will take it | creditcrunchies
02/10/2019 16:12 | Bad Day at Blackrock Might get worse tomorrow Fresh undies for all methinks | buywell3
02/10/2019 13:09 | CC, that's how it works in much of the USA. You can drive/walk to the local post office that has boxes for all the residents, or you can pay a premium to that local office to get your post delivered. It seems to work perfectly well. | lefrene |
