04/10/2017 09:06 | I REALLY HOPE THE STRIKE GOES AHEAD AND FOR SOMETIME BEFORE ITS OVER. | datait
04/10/2017 09:00 | Using a prediction of pension contribtions going up from 400m to 1200m in a year to attack pensions seems like a con to me and posties know it. | encarter
04/10/2017 08:56 | Oiht, around 111k cwu members and 18k non members. Most will strike. | encarter
04/10/2017 08:54 | Take them on of course... the wage bill is already £5 billion Royal Mail can afford to loose more letters and make postmen redundant.. restructure the letters service Most of it is a waste of shoes anyway As Oiht says, idiots have voted like turkeys... striking is a complete waste of time in a declining letters trend Absolute morons imo | muffinhead
04/10/2017 08:52 | Amusing story in todays Telegraph. Despite CWU being one of Labours biggest donors, the Labour Party uses a rival to RMG. Corbyn's Labour has received £2.8m since he came to power. | careful
04/10/2017 08:48 | And next years divi and p/e? | encarter
04/10/2017 08:47 | Will all posties be striking or just CWU members? | oiht
04/10/2017 08:46 | Royal Mail book price is 500p so trading at a steep discount to NAV now. November dividend alone yielding 2% now Full year dividend 6.2% Covered 1.7x P/E 9 | justiceforthemany
04/10/2017 08:40 | will moya green take them on, or just roll over as in the past? | careful
04/10/2017 08:37 | Sorry exotic - just noticed you'd already said that. | oiht
04/10/2017 08:37 | Yep RMG doomed now | encarter
04/10/2017 08:32 | Turkeys voting for Christmas in my opinion. | oiht
04/10/2017 08:16 | Talking with my postman yesterday , he gets one week off in every four , overtime is often offered and he choses what to take , holidays on top of that , he has a very good work life balance , certainly is not grossly paid but then its not a highly skilled job and he clearly enjoys it , gets very annoyed if a newbie comes in who does things at speed , as he admits it shows them up , the mind set though is still union and hate the Conservatives , fueled further now of course by Jeremys approach which seems to becoming de rigueur . Question is how long would they be prepared to strike for , as whilst its not a route to vast wealth it seems comfortable for the long serving ones , whether they are a majority is the question and would have to take into account a lot of part time staff as well . | holts
04/10/2017 08:05 | Absolutely exotic, they don't lose a penny, they stand to lose thousands of pounds. Pensions are a tough one to strike over, when workers become pensioners they'll need a strong RMG to ensure their pension, whatever it is, is paid (unless nationalised of course, then we're all doomed). So rationally there'd be some sense of balance in their actions. But if the attitude is - ooh we can strike and get our pennies back through overtime -let's push our customers to change mail provider - then they'll deserve all they won't get. | tonio
04/10/2017 07:48 | Can anyone tell me what the basis is for Royal Mails prediction of their pension contributions going from £400M to £1200M next year? | encarter
04/10/2017 07:25 | Rail and postal strikes. The resurge of Jeremy and his nationalisation plans is having an effect already. Back to the good old days for some. | careful
03/10/2017 23:11 | Just notice they got the announcement out at 17.50 tonight. Maybe no one will notice. Exotic, sorry not sure what you mean? | encarter
03/10/2017 22:41 | "The service is disrupted for 3 days but posties don't lose a penny Imho." encarter, if it was still a nationalised monopoly I'd agree with you. As a privatised business with large and cheaper competitors snapping at their heals, I'm not so sure. | exotic
03/10/2017 22:37 | The union will give notice of a strike maybe as early as tomorrow. Part of their strategy is to decimate the share price and so put pressure on the board from shareholders. Moya may even have to go. If I were in charge of CWU decision making I would give notice on Thursday as an announcement by Royal Mail should do the damage tomorrow. A one day strike split between delivery and processing would have little impact on posties wages. So 18th delivery staff strike then 19th processing staff strike then 20th delivery staff have no mail to deliver. Then 21st they make up their lost earnings on overtime. The service is disrupted for 3 days but posties don't lose a penny Imho. | encarter
03/10/2017 22:33 | Bluff or no bluff, the damage has started. The next 3 months is always a crucial time for online retailers. Contracts will start moving to cheaper suppliers from tomorrow. RM revenue will fall. Turkeys just voted for Christmas. | exotic
03/10/2017 20:45 | Doubt if there will be an all out strike. A game of bluff and poker at this stage. A traditional tree shake, part of RMG's past culture. Posties will lose money if there is a long strike. More likely key sectors, work to rule, and the usual tactics. A deal will be struck. Lots of bluffing going on here from both sides. The vote was part of the negotiation. Everyone loses if there is a strike. | careful
03/10/2017 20:37 | encarter....I have to say, I think your posts on this thread are excellent! | europa79
03/10/2017 20:32 | That's quite funny Oiht :-) The supply and demand model is quite sad. Celebrities with questionable talent worth millions whilst the NHS goes down the pan. | europa79
03/10/2017 19:53 | Yes, it would be a gamble to jump in too early. | crystball |
