06/10/2017 17:01 | None of that matters, Royal Mail is protected by the regulator. If Royal Mail struggle too much then the regulator will tweek the rules to give them more profit. | encarter
06/10/2017 16:49 | Posties have public sympathy and are appreciated. Everyone wants them to be well paid with decent benefits. But sometimes their militant union leaders are their worst enemies. They want to smash the company for political reasons and end up destroying jobs. | careful
06/10/2017 16:15 | I'd love all these postie bashers to do a delivery round for a week. Unrealistic workloads and management bullying....sounds like fun ? Maybe then, they would think twice before slagging off the posties. It's a bloody hard job done by decent folk who should be treated with respect. | europa79

05/10/2017 19:39 | Looks like the CWU forgot it signed up to a legally binding dispute resolution procedure in 2013. Can't see a strike taking place anytime soon. | bartram
05/10/2017 19:17 | If Royal mail strike near Xmas, there will be loads of people joining amazon prime. | wipo1
05/10/2017 18:22 | Royal Mail plans legal action to stop strike taking place this month Royal Mail will now invoke the legal obligation for both sides to go through external mediation, but threatened to take legal matters to the High Court to gain an injunction to prevent what could be the first Royal Mail strike since 2009. A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “We believe any strike action before the dispute resolution procedures have been followed would be unlawful strike action.” hxxp://www.cityam.co | justiceforthemany
05/10/2017 17:33 | Yes the side effect of QE is to cripple pension funds and savers income. A stealth tax. I see the Union have called a two day strike end of Oct. | careful
05/10/2017 17:22 | Yes there is a but! It is down to the Bank of England and it's "quantitative easing" program. The BOE has bought up a large chunk of the gilt market to save the banks and keep the government debt interest payment low. However in so doing, the BOE has sacrificed savers and pension funds. The BOE and other central banks around the world have created a pension fund crisis The BOE is the gorilla in the gilt market | muffinhead
05/10/2017 16:30 | encarter - 04 Oct 2017 - 09:00:16 - 8551 of 8610 RMG Using a prediction of pension contribtions going up from 400m to 1200m in a year to attack pensions seems like a con to me and posties know it. This is due to gilt yields If the living wage is to increase 5% each year between now and 2021 which it is, I can't for the life of me see how inflation is going to drop from here. This is important if inflation expectations in the economy start to increase government gilts yields which is the primary source of income to pay future RM retirees The CPI or RPI on a monthly and quarterly basis is above the Bank of Englands inflation target of 2%. I am expecting CPI inflation on a yearly frequency basis, reported in January 2018 to come in around 2.5% I have also noted Len McCluskey calling for the public sector pay cap to be lifted and there are various strikes starting to pop up. So living wage inflation may spread to other wage grades Gilt yields have to increase imo which is why the following 10 year gilt chart is important for the Royal Mail Pension fund. Getting back to 2.2% should put pension planning for the RM pension trustees back at the level at the RM stockmarket debut.... You can play with the CPI monthly, quarterly and yearly graphs at this website. The direction is clear | muffinhead
