Not a good write up Dodger777. I was going to buy in the near future at current price. I will wait for further drops now before buying.

"Total flying hours have increased by 8% over the last week from the bottom"

Total flying hours include "Commercial flights + rest of business jet flights + private flights + gliders + most helicopter flights + most ambulance flights + government flights + some military flights + drones"

Commercial flights are "Commercial passenger flights + cargo flights + charter flights + some business jet flights."

Commercial flights are more relevant to RR and they are flat bottoming at just over -70%

I personally can't see why penalties on engine availability will be applied in the event the aircraft is grounded for non-engine related issues. There would be something in the contract as if you had a problem with the Boeing 787 aircraft preventing flight, then can't charge the engine supplier a penalty.

The other revenue stream is aftermarket and I can see a number of airlines using the break in flying to perform some maintenance so their fleet is pristine upon returning to the market.

I wouldn't be surprised to find airlines pulling forward scheduled maintenance particularly heavy maintenance to take advantage of the shutdown and perform essential maintenance during this period. This is why MRO facilities are still open and running including RR maintenance facilities which is a big source of revenue.

On subject of aircraft leasing, ships are also leased/chartered, voyage charters, time charters etc. The company that was to do cross-channel ferries but didn't own any ships, would have chartered ships. That is common. I did it for work for many years. The pig-ignorant press just wanted an anti-Brexit, anti-Government story.

Big1Day. Your comment in 3521 interested me:

The 1000 work was a priority as financial penalties having to be paid for Aircraft on ground so my guess would be they are still progressing well and the finance update 28th Feb suggested single digit planes by end of June.

I wonder whether the financial penalties for aircraft on the ground still applies. After all, most aircraft are on the ground anyway so the airlines aren't losing money because the planes are out of service due to the necessary upgrade.

Or is that logic something that wouldn't stand up in the circumstances of problems with the engines?

Can some one help me out here ?
The Trent 1000 aircraft penalties problem have cost RR about £3 off there stock market price .
They have been fixing this yes , and we’re due to finish this if all went right mid to late summer yes
but has coved19 slowed the repair work down ?
Does RR send a teams of repair workers to engines ?
Or are engines sent back to factory for repair work ?
Sadly to say RR announcing all repairs finished will help but not as much knowing that the repaired engine may not be used for some time , but it will speed there recovery in the long run I’m sure

Total flying hours have increased by 8% over the last week from the bottom of the curve. Yet the Share Price is down, doesn't make any sense....hopefully will continue to tick up now as flights begin to resume.

Correct Tony,
That's just the aircraft, then you had a separate leasing mechanism for the engines, total care power by hour is the modern standard, but RR still has old engines on the old standard of Time & Material based deals for the Trent 700 etc.
You then get variations in Total Care as LLP's are excluded & rates are set based on all sort of different parameters to suit airlines.

It's a complex world.

Indeed. Damp lease is when the aircraft is supplied with the flight deck crew, and the lessee provides their own cabin crew (generally)
