24/2/2009 13:44 | QinetiQ could hit hardest by a rising deficit. "We expect the net post-tax pension deficit to grow from £17m in March 2008 to £144m in March 2009 (about 20p a share)", said Mr Crook (of UBS) Qinetiq themselves alluded to the pension situation in their recent statement: "The 30 June 2008 triennial pension scheme funding valuation is proceeding to plan and we expect to conclude this exercise in the next few months. As previously announced, any annual recovery payments resulting from a likely past service deficit will be partially offset by lower future service contributions as a result of the changes in terms implemented this financial year." I recall MoD being liable for a limited amount of any pension funding shortfall, as part of the sell-off arrangements, or have I got that wrong. Perhaps we better see what the valuation exercise concludes. Shares significantly undervalued now IMHO. | mw
24/2/2009 13:32 | wad.....maybe? bit it was way undervalued anyway, so the drop to thses silly levels is not justified....imho | revoc2
24/2/2009 12:56 | Pensions? "We expect the net post-tax pension deficit to grow from £17m in March 2008 to £144m in March 2009 (about 20p a share)" | wad collector
23/2/2009 14:59 | I'm puzzled as to why the training contract even figures; it won't start adding earnings for a year or two and may not even figure in current business forecasts. Just a general drift down on lack of any specific news, I'd guess. Recent management statement says "trading in line with expectations". I'd have thought that any significant cut-back in MoD spending would have to come from hardware savings. Qinetiq didn't used (wasn't allowed) to do hardware for the MoD. Aside from reduction in MoD income, which it could manage by adjusting the size of its UK workforce, the big issue is the way the US business is going to develop. The aggregate size of acquisitions now enable QNA to think about competing for $1Bn plus contracts in the US, and move into a bigger league. As for the size of pension deficits, BAE Systems has a whopping one, but this has not prevented that shareprice from bouncing upwards on strength of order book. | mw

10/2/2009 10:37 | From Quarterly Update ' Outlook With trading performance in line with expectations, the Board remains confident about the outlook for the Group. QinetiQ's preliminary results for the year ended 31 March 2009 will be announced on 21 May 2009.' Currently down on concern over MOD contract delays. Lack of government cash calling the new training contact into question? z | zeppo

05/2/2009 19:11 | Article in todays D/Mail, Credit Suisse says Quinetiq looks oversold.Recent concerns about loss of partners etc and operations manager seem overdone. It expects new DTR partner to emerge defore the contract goes to the MOD in April.Shares now trading at 30% discount to its UK defence peers. Also take a look at the Investtech graph, looks like a well formed double bottom, and an interesting analysis. | amzuk
