27/11/2008 18:51 | I see that private eye dont like this CEO. More likely from what I hear they are lacking work in old core areas because their customers are leaving them and they cant afford bid costs for the big DT contract which keeps slipping. Now 2010 so thats a lot of delay. May be part of these problems are because they did not downsize when they should have so now they need to sell. Who will buy? | nemesis toad
27/11/2008 17:33 | The Times QINETIQ PRIMED FOR ASSET SELL-OFF TO DEFEND ITS FUTURE Defence researcher QinetiQ is to sell several of its non-core businesses in the new year as it seeks to invest more capital into security and counter-terrorism. Chief executive Graham Love said the disposals would raise tens of millions of pounds and that the buyers are likely to be other defence groups. Love stressed that the move "is about realising cash for future investment and is not about downsizing the business". The group said it was well-placed to benefit from public spending on defence since "ministers had made it clear that it is their priority to support the troops in active operations". Sounds plausible.Hope they aren't going having to pay off the pawn-brokers. | wad collector
26/11/2008 13:17 | OK - the share price drop is really perverse - there are not many companies who have managed to maintain their positions throughout the recent problems in the market and this is one of them. | michaelsr
26/11/2008 11:15 | I'm not complaining - as I have posted before , it is one of the best performing in my portfolio(Not that that says much looking at the swamp of red I see!) Results look as solid as any announcements in the last year . The DTR is mentioned: Work continues to progress Package 1 of the UK MOD Defence Training Rationalisation Programme (DTR) which involves delivery of technical training including aeronautical engineering and communications and information systems. During the period £6.5m of bid costs were capitalised given the Group's preferred bidder status. The total amount of bid costs capitalised as at 30 September 2008 is £16.1m. In total up to £20m bid costs are expected to be capitalised during the full year to 31 March 2009 and recovered over the course of the contract. We currently anticipate an investment decision in Spring 2009 with contract close in Summer 2010. "Contract close" in 2010 presumably they mean closure of the bidding process. | wad collector
26/11/2008 09:14 | Wad - the other point that you are missing is that, at the moment it's just nice to have a holding that isn't in permanent freefall!! | michaelsr
25/11/2008 17:38 | I don't think we are ever going to see huge income here ; even a doubling of the dividend tomorrow would only take it to 4.8% , which by todays standards isn't that impressive. No way they are going to double the divi in the current climate. But I am happy to hold for capital growth. One day..... | wad collector
25/11/2008 11:52 | Just hoping for divi increases that can be sustained. Long term in all my stocks - looking for income. z | zeppo
25/11/2008 11:19 | obviously good news expected... better be or down we go again! | michaelsr

19/11/2008 15:21 | mw - pushed me over he edge. I was swithering as to whether I should buy back in or not and have now done so (at 146) ... fingers crossed! | michaelsr
19/11/2008 12:13 | I would have guessed that the likelihood of any cancellation of the DTR contract would be minimal, given that S.Wales is suffering from a round of redundancies and closures, and its a labour heartland. There might be some cost profiling though. Income stream for QQ. is so diversified across many projects, that I would not expect anything too surprising in the trading statement. At these levels must be worth a top-up. I see that Legal & General share that view. | mw

18/11/2008 10:22 | general worry about defence contracts and budget is my guess. article in yesterday's Mail mentioned such concerns: | gunter guil
18/11/2008 10:10 | Think I will keep my mouth shut in future! Either somebody knows something in advance of any statement or this is going to rocket when the trading statement comes out. Nope, don't work for them but do know people who do - not high enough up the food chain to provide any inside information other than the usual "how it feels at work" stuff and some general stuff on what the company is doing. Nobody has said that they are worried about their job or anything like that. I get the feeling that the speculators are at work here and that it could go either way. I was stopped out a while back (Thank IG for guaranteed stops!). Cannot decide what will happen next. | michaelsr
17/11/2008 18:48 | Not just year low , all time low.Bit odd after weathering most of the crash .I wonder why. | wad collector
17/11/2008 17:42 | Year low? Hope we get a divi increase next week. z | zeppo
17/11/2008 14:21 | nemesis toad - you are right about the subs etc. being NOFOR (No Foreign). That is why they have and are buying US companies through whom they can do the work. With the right walls in place there is no problem with applying their expertise to US installations. And, as I understand it they are the best in the world when it comes to sea ranges (managing, monitoring, measuring etc.) I believe that they have a pretty good track record in commercial work - certainly they have invented a lot of stuff that has made them money. How well they are managing as a fully commercial organisation is another question entirely! Keeping my fingers crossed and the shares under the bed! | michaelsr
13/11/2008 09:56 | Cant see them doing US sea range work, arnt subamrines off limits? | nemesis toad |
